These incidents happen a lot more frequently than you might think. Though they don't normally end in fatal shooting, if any shots are even fired at all. At Tinker AFB, OK ( a toll booth state) drunks will regularly run our gates on weekends around 3am thinking they're just not paying a toll.

I doubt most of those people are running from the cops. Also the tire cutter failed on our base which is why he got so far.

Our cops told me the spikes popped up right after he cleared them, a friend of mine said that one of the sf explorers got all 4 tires flattened though. Figures

Okay I'll give you more specific cases. In the last 7 months we had a hit and run dui, a stolen vehicle gate runner, and another where 2 suspects ditched a stolen vehicle while being pursued and jumped our barb wire fence.

Some people just don't get that military security isnt a dog and pony show. Post 9-11, my unit fortified the gates with 240G machine guns, as well as ramped up security on the restricted area we were in charge of. If someone ran the gate, they would get stopped rapidly.

more than likely the latter. you can't put all those young airmen at gates for 8-13 hours and expect them to be 100% the whole time. Those barriers take less than a second to pop up. they don't just 'not work'.
