If the kid grabbed the cash and ran, the older man was wrong.

If the kid threatened the man, the gentleman was right to shoot.
I still can't get past the fact that he shot the kid in the chest. This indicates that the kid was not running, and was likely a threat to the man. I don't know ALL the details, but that one's pretty telling, in my opinion.

+1 One of the first things taught in my defense course is to never leave a threat capacitated. If the theif was within 7 yards he was a potential threat.

BTW, nice avatar, somehow it looks familiar!

Or the kid simply said, "Give me all your money!" and the old man gave him a round in the chest instead. Not siding with the kid, just playing devil's advocate. Point is, we're never going to know what really happened. The only people who know what really went down are the old man and the dead kid. All other reports are going to come from the courtroom where the testimonies will be twisted by the lawyers and the media (newspaper & TV) here in Raleigh, which IMO, is extremely liberal and spins things to further their own agenda.

Yeah, something to add is WRAL is definitely not known for their objective reporting...

+1 on that! Don't know who's worse, WRAL or the N & O.

So, if he'd shot the kid in the back, that would have meant that the kid WAS a threat, when a shot in the chest meant that the kid WASN'T a threat? Gimme a break!
