Good point about a kids size when it comse to self defense:
A couple years ago, a 16 y/o kid pulling a halloween type prank at a guys front door got shot and killed...the parents (pointing out the obvious) said, "but he was just a kid...16 years old." What they did not point out was he was like 6'2" 250. If I were to open my door in the middle of the night, see a 6'2" figure with what appears to be a knife in his hands...I'm taking the shot!
(of course, the shooters problem started when he opened the door, what was he thinking?)

In my state, one MAY exercise lethal force in order to prevent certain felonies, with robbery being one of those felonies. Maybe the father's wrong. Maybe the kid did deserve to die. Wonder how many lives have been saved by the taking of that one? Wasn't that long ago, in the Grand Scheme of Things, that it was o.k. in some states (mine being one of them) to take the life of another, in order to "prevent an imminent act of adultery."

Unfortunately that is probably not a true statement. He will wear it as a badge of honor w/ his crew for a while proving he's a bad mother****er who's too tough to die.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing this from the families. If his dumb ass didn't rob the guy he wouldn't be dead. When is the time that criminals own up and take responsibility.

Sounds like if that kid didn't die, he could have sued the guy for shooting him.

Great laws in this country.

I don't care why somebodys taking my stuff, if ain't theirs, kiss your ass goodbye.

I don't even have the patience to deal with the politics of stupid laws like this. More people should be blowing these robbers away and maybe, just maybe they will change the laws.
I bet if it was the D.A. that got robbed his ass would be lobbying to have the law changed.

Hard to wear a badge of honor when you're six feet under...

I feel bad for the Vegetable Stand vendor. I hope he gets off light because obviously race is not an issue. The kid was stealing this older guys work and livelihood, I sort of considering that stealing a man's life energy so to speak. I might not think shooting the kid was moral, but neither is stealing an old man's life blood. I think if not getting shot was a sure thing theft would be much more commonplace. The old guy is likely going to pay dearly but it may be for the greater good.

Parents who make excuses like that for their son's theiving behavior are a huge part of the reason the little bastard became a thief. If my son gets risky as he gets older I'll tell him if he ever hurts someone like that I'll kill him myself, and I'm "sort of" joking, but deep down he knows he better not find out..Like Bill Cosby said to his son Theo on the Cosby Show: "I brought you into this world; I can take you out." ;p

Its sad that nowadays the Bad guys have more rights then the honest citizens.

Yep and in NC you cannot shoot unless you are threated and you can not shoot to protect property.

My .02

If the story we read is correct then the shooter is guilty. I don't believe in killing a man over theft. If you feel your life is threatened then that's another story. If a man breaks in my house I feel my life is threatened no matter what his intention were. But at a fruit stand on th back of a truck, It's murder.

I know it is not allowed but what is so wrong about protecting what I work to earn. Why should it be illegal? Oh I forgot, it is more important to protect safety of criminals. I hate one who steals, scumbags everyone of them.
