looks sexy as hell....but to me it's just another AR clone with a fancy look, and a wicked MSRP.

I'll stick to my Stag AR15

I'm guessing you don't know anything about the Sig 550 series of rifles it's based on. It has a completely different gas system(uses a piston) and is in no way based on Stoner's AR15 design. The only thing in common are the accessories it uses and the magazines it takes.

To tell you the truth, it's much closer in design to an AK47 than it is an AR15.

with the exception of that 550 gas piston operation and slightly different internals....

16" barrel
AR Stock
Similar to aftermarket AR grip
AR MAGS!(although there are plans for conversion to SIG mags)
Rails on the fore-end
Oh and look at that Flat top.
Oh yeah and pitiful 223 performance

AR
Clone!!!!!!!
Get an AR instead save money. Buy ammo.

But seriously AR clone or not, who is to say for sure how it shoots till someone actually gets one!! I will stick with my Home built AR that has consumed over 1500 rounds so far with no malfunctions, and was 500$ cheaper!

Looks very functional and the specs look impressive but the price tag and the ar15 wannabe look make me not want one.

I definately like the piston action, but I think there are better avenues for piston actioned .223/5.56mm rifles.

Here's an actual Sig 550.

I'm willing to bet you will be able to get standard 550 type furniture including the side folding butt-stock if you don't like the "AR look".

According to Mike Bane on Shooting Gallery, there will be mods for the receiver to allow the rifle to use SIG mags, and to use the original handguards and other furniture. The interview was with a SIG arms rep at the SHOT show.

Now why does sig have to do this? Why don't they just come up with the gun in its original 550 furniture? Now people have to buy the gun and then buy the mod kits in order to get a gun back to it original flavor, what a waste of money.

My guess is, it's designed for an American market(being built here and all). They are hoping for large orders from law enforcement departments. If it's compatible with the gadgets that are available for ARs, then they can sell more. That's why it takes AR magazines for instance.

In my opinion, they improved upon the 550 design. I would love to have one with a 14" barrel and side folding stock.
