Homak Gun Safe...Frustrated.
So I've had a homak gun safe for over a decade now and I lost the key to it maybe a year ago. I've finally gotten around to trying to get it open and my first thought was to contact Homak to get a new key cut.
They offer replacement keys for $25. I went ahead and ordered one and 3 weeks later it arrived. Tried it and it didn't work. Sent Homak an email saying the key did not work and didn't get a response for 3 weeks. Finally called Homak and they are sending another one out but they said that if it doesn't work then they cannot help me and cannot issue a refund.
Does this make sense to you guys? I'm somewhat frustrated.

If there is a serial number, there should be no reason why they can't get another ket cut properly. Unless the safe lock was modified in some way.
The 3 week turn around time and the lack of answer is a joke. I'd be more mad than frustrated. Maybe a good locksmith can help?

The problem with the locksmith is they would have to drill out the locks and and I'd have to replace them which would cost quite a significant amount of money. I could saw my way into it but I'm afraid of damaging the contents of the safe.
Blah. Very frustrating.

That looks like vending or tubular lock. Those are pretty easy to pick (with the correct tool).
I think the tool is about $60 and it can be used as your key, or you can replace the lock for about $10. A lock smith should not tell you they have to drill it out.

in the past ... don't ask me how I know this. But you could shove the end of BIC pen into the lock and turn it .... you could give that a try .... but then if not successful you would have to clean out the plastic bits.

Wait...your worried about the cost of replacing the lock...but then go onto say that you are thinking of sawing into it. Doesnt the cost of the safe sway you away from that?
Call a locksmith. That lock doesnt look too hard to pick in all honesty...it looks more like a lock to keep the honest people out but thats about it.

I would honestly rather not saw into it if I don't have to. I'm going to see if this second replacement works and if not I guess I'll call a locksmith.
I've just been very frustrated with Homak's customer service. This has been almost a 2 month affair.
