Deadbolt Lock

Ok so I recently posted a thread showing a gun lock box which I have mounted in my bedroom closet shelf. Now again I do not have funds for a 1200 gun safe. So my idea, why not secure my closet the best I can with things I can get from the hardware store. I am planning on putting a deadbolt on my closet door, a key entry lock on my bedroom door, figured if a theif wants whats in my closet heres the time frame

1. Break down the bedroom door (very loud), search room for other good stuff

2. Realize there is a deadbolt on my closet, closet door pulls open not in, not sure how time consuming that would be, again alot of noise.

3. Gun box bolted 6 feet up into walls and shelf.

Seems like alot of damage at the end in a worst case scenerio, but with about 60 bucks I can get this done and feel more at ease. What do you guys think any ideas to add??

I don't think a dead bolt will do you much good unless you have a solid core door on your closet.

I think it would consume time. You'd have to beef up the hinge side of the closet door also.

Also, you're ammo box says "clips". I know, it probably was clips and not magazines, but it just reminded me of all the clips vs. magazine threads on this forum.

Thats what I was thinking, not going for a fortress but more of a time consumer for a theif. HA! yeah all the ammo cans at the surplus say "clips"

One good kick to an interior privacy door (which is what most closet doors are) and it will break around the lock. As mentioned, to make this worth thinking about, replace the door with a solid wood or steel door, beef up the hinges, and beef up the strike side of the frame. Otherwise, the door and the lock might hold, but the frame where the bolt engages will tear out.

For the same cost as all that, you're probably better off getting one of those $300 Stack-On gun cabinets and bolting it to the wall studs in your closet.

2 things of note. Even with a solid core steel door, if it opens out, then the hinges are exposed. 30 seconds tops to remove the pins and not much noise to boot. You would be better served with a cheaper safe or a stack on cabinet.

The ammo cans say clips because the ammo is on 10 round stripper clips ready to be transferred into magazines.

Good call on the exterior hinges.

Well can't they just break through the drywall adjacent to your bedroom or closet? Dry wall is pretty flimsy, can punch through or kicked in and then can be torn down pretty easily… speaking from experience (remodel jobs not burglary) I mean it's not like they care about damage to you place

This doesn't even take into account that he is trying to "secure" an interior closet. Even with the door, frame and hinges armored up, they are still all in a sheetrock wall. A couple of good kicks and you're in.

Edit - ^^ Beat me to the punch.
