Guardsman get his guns stolen by DC police

It is amazing that this is allowed to go on. In the comments section of this article is a posting of the email address of the person in the Metro PD you can ask why his guns havent been returned. Another case of why you dont consent to search of your vehicle.

As I get older, my support for the cops diminishes drastically...

...I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Its disgusting that a public servant organization acts like that. A similar thing is happening in Tennessee. If you drive through there with large sums of money and are pulled over. If they search your vehicle and find it, they can suspect it of being drug money and confiscate it. I also read some thing about when a LEO asks for permission to search the vehicle and of course you say no, when the LEO asks why, you basically ask him/her if they have probable cause which puts the burden in their court not yours to prove and it also makes you look less like you were uncooperative(yes I know, it is within your rights). It almost sounds like you need to keep some type of recording device in your vehicle just to back up your own version of events. I know not all LEOs are like this, but, since they dont come with labels, you have to assume the worst just like they do.

I also read that a LEO can only detain you as long as it would take to write a normal ticket and of course that will differ state to state and city to city. So basically you are asking them "Am I free to go and if not why am I being held?" I am no lawyer so take what I wrote with a grain of salt, but, it seems logical and if I am wrong please correct me.

One thing I wonder though, do they have dogs that can detect multiple scents? Can a dog be trained to hit off of guns and drugs or money? If so, and you are carrying one of those items then there is the probable cause.

Sad story, the Virginia Citizen's Defense league sent this out and a lot of us wrote emails requesting his rightful property be returned.

Did he break the law to begin with? If so, he should've took the time to read the law before traveling.

If you continue to build your perceptions of them through media stories then you will always be disappointed. There are 100s of thousands of cops out there. It makes better news to point out the ones being corrupted bullies than point out the ones who do their job and uphold the Constitution.

Thats a good point. In the 42 years Ive been on this planet, I havent had that many run ins with the law, but, they have all been professional and as possitive as can be given the circumstances.

If you stop in DC for any reason while transporting firearms you are no longer covered by Federal Law (Title 18 Part 1 Chapter 44 § 926A) but fall under DC law and can be arrested and your firearms Confiscated.

D.C. Official Code § 7-2506.01
"(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term "large capacity ammunition feeding device" means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term "large capacity ammunition feeding device" shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.".

While I get your point, that's not how I build my perceptions. The media stories only affirm that which I already know.
