I was just thinking how amazing puppies are.
like moms chessie pup (and probably the black lab pup too) they automatically know about ducks and to fetch them. they automatically know how to swim out and get them. they automatically want to bond with their person.
moms pup has most likely never even seen a duck before and its like her very favorite thing.
mom isn't a duck hunter and neither am I but I do want to encourage baby dogs duck hunting prowess. I am trying to get mom to play ducks with her and keep her mind and body busy doing that.
I figure if she is exercised doing what she likes she will be stimulated and want to learn other things.
I would be interested to hear if any other retrievers take to duck toys like that.

Congrats on the new Lab pup!
We've been Lab and Golden Retreiver folks for over thirty five years... so we're a wee bit biased, but in my humble opinion , you got the best dog there is!

Congrats on the lab!
If she actually "followed you home", I hate to be a buzz kill but, do you think you outta make some flyers to see if someone has lost their puppy? We were faced with this issue several years ago and eventually listed the dog in the paper. The owners showed up and said they didn't want him anymore. We had a clear conscience and a great companion for 12 happy years until we had to make the decision to put him down due to health issues. Ironically he too was a black lab.
If that was just another way of saying you bought a puppy, sorry I misunderstood....and enjoy!! You are in for several great years of devoted companionship!!! We are a devoted lab family!!
Here's ours, Mojo:

I had a lab pup once, and she tried to eat anything and everything. Picnic table, rose bushes, beer, limestone rocks, 4x4 posts holding up the patio, grass, bird seed, the deck, the garden, side of couch, and the list goes on and on. She was a great dog, but her 1st couple of years were very trying.

You read my mind. I wanted to, but all I heard from the neighbors (fellow dog lovers) was "Pepper? Why pepper?" So what I thought was cool turned out to be a fail. Then someone mentioned "Molly" and that was it. I don't mind, I like it.

All of the bad puppy habits will come in time. She is just getting adjusted.
2 things: never miss a chance to take her out and let her go potty,..... ever. I can't say I'd recommend wee pads, but it's your dog.
I can hardly wait for your pics!!!
|
So far, she's been behaving very well. She isn't drinking much water though. Otherwise, she's eating and playing...and sleeping.
I'm trying to teach her to go potty outside. So far, been taking her once every hour. Wee-wee pads are "just in case". I don't want her using them.
Working on the pics. Right now she's always looking for attention.

I bought the dog from a reputable breeder. She had all her shots.

My dog's name is Tater too! He's an American bulldog hybrid (Scott/Johnson). More heart than Valentine's Day and strong as an ox.
