There are two enemies to my life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness in this country. Criminals and cops.

And I don't even want to tell you what I think Officer Bates deserves........he is the scum of the planet.
It doesn't matter if they ask you. If they say you are acting suspicious, they will search anyways. If your acting nervous, or any other bs they come up with, they are searching your car. It's your word against theirs. Unfortunatly, they have the power. It's not right at all by any means.

Officer "I crap on the Constitution daily" needs to spend some time behind bars for stuff like this to change. I think it would be appropriate for him to sit behind bars for about 5 years to think about what an oath to uphold the Constitution and the rights of the citizens of the United States really means. Maybe he will figure out that it means you can't be a thieving little bastard hiding behind a badge.
It would help. The activity would not be profitable, so it would be curtailed. The idiots on top encouraging that type of crap would also be given the heave-ho by those paying the bill, and that would help even more.

auto exception to 4th A is pretty broad, yeah. still needs a proper stop + reasonable suspicion to search the car.

note to self: if a cop asks if you have a large sum of money, DON'T SAY YES!

Constitution/Amendments supersede state law. You clearly don't understand the context of the 10th amendment if you're going to make an argument that this is to blame on states rights.

Trust me, if something like that happened it to me I would make them regret it.......

If they say I am acting nervous to steal $20k from me, or my guns......I belong to a forum that would torment the hell out of em.

Arrow I've known people that had $$ taken by cops.

Way back when, I knew somebody that was going to buy a transmission from me. He got pulled over right in front of my buddy's house, where the transmission was. The cops took the cash, and said he could have it back IF he could prove it was legit. I have no idea if his $$ was legit or not, but I do know the cops kept the cash. This kind of crap has been going on for way too long, and most of it is in the name of this idiotic drug war they've got going. I guess they get to ASSUME if there's no paper trail to the cash you've got, you're dealing drugs, or some other BS.

The difference is that you have protections if/when it turns out the officer didn't have the right to search your vehicle, versus them having the right if you consent.
