We have a production facility in Guadalajara. One of the managers from America was robbed at gunpoint outside the facility.
I have already let them know I have no intention of ever going there for business and will gladly accept unemployment should that be the only other option.

Maybe, maybe not - Amsterdam's pull-back from their former position on marijuana use indicates that decriminalization may not work as promised.

Yeah, the US-side of the border is distinctly better. I mostly hear about problems down in the valley area, around Brownsville. I won't go back there if you paid me (for many reasons!).
But, the violence isn't necessary staying on the Mexican side. Last year the cartels planted a roadside bomb in Brownsville.

Mexico + (5|10years) = Samalia
Civil war or total lawlessness plain and simple. Influx of refuges and raids across the border.

people are already going back to mexico because the US economy tanked. bonus: all the anti-immigration stuff made farmers hurt even more. they had to deal with the economy + no workers.
I recall reading that Phoenix PD made up crap tons of violent reports a few years ago to get more HLS money. Lovely.

Big media often gets what is going on in Mexico totally wrong....when they report on it (which is rare).
What you have going on is a turf war between 2-3 different cartels. These cartels also are in bed with Colombian cocaine, pot and heroin smugglers.
These factions are constantly changing and morphing. Los Zetas used to work for the Sinaloa Cartel but have since gone on their own and are also in on smuggling and drug running along with the mercenary paramilitary stuff they were known for. Other cartels change their actions and focus as time goes on. Los Zetas has been found to be involved with human trafficking here in Houston and not only of Mexican/Latin women but women forced into prostitution from places like China and Vietnam.
All of these factions do basically the same things and traffic not only drugs but people (hookers and workers). They are also in on auto theft rings in the states that steal cars and modify their VIN plates and smuggle to Mexico and farther south. One ring of car thieves was linked to many top ranking officials of the govt. of Belize not too long ago. They would steal high end SUVs like Navigators and Escalades and sell them to the govt. officials in Belize. Even one local police chief there had a stolen Expedition!
These groups are jockeying for control and position over various smuggling routes through Mexico and in to the USA. Along the way, they have bribed many local officials in Mexico from mayors to state reps and yes...the various police units and Mexican military.
Some of these groups are also involved in bringing guns and other weapons from the USA and other countries in to Mexico to fight this war.
It is a complicated and hard to pin down situation, but our govt. seems to want no part of really trying to stop it or change Mexico at all. We will invest billions in trying to change places like Afghanistan and Iraq but not Mexico, even though many of us think a deteriorating Mexico poses a greater threat to our overall lives.

Yep, border country slipping into anarchy, entire towns and regions with no law enforcement other than cartel enforcers, but we send billions to fight afgans. Wait until the cartels start interrupting oil shipments then we'll do something.

That will be LOOOONG after the actual invasion of the closest cities by gangs and whatnot and the citizens have been caught in the crossfire.

Don't see mexican cartels "actually invading" cities. They know that would cause a quick response from the US. They know that launching things from mexico is safer than actually coming to take over towns like they do in mexico.
