Yep. A scary percentage of Mexicos government, police and military are in bed with the cartels. Mexico has no control or authority over what the cartel does and doesn't do.
It won't be long before this starts affecting us even more, even though its already bad enough. Just check out some of the violence in Houston....it's definitely cartel related. It will be interesting to see what our gov't does when they finally can't ignore it any longer.

(1) What? I've never read an article about dozens of heads rolling on an AZ highway.
(2) F&F didnt supply guns; F&F let goes move that were already moving. The US govt didn't actually give the guns to cartels; it just knowingly let the guns go south. Important difference.

MX has sent in troops. Very literally. It has helped lots. Surprisingly, Juarez used to be worse than it currently is.

Pretty much every Mexican cop along the border is corrupted by money or threat of violence. Federalies are less corrupted.
Bonus: US govt trained Mexican military that have defected to the cartels. Our imperialism bites us in the ass yet again. USA! USA!

Central Mexico is relatively safe *shrug*
Also, it bothers me that I'm not really surprised or even shocked when I read about stuff like this anymore.

It's been in our eye for some time. It's in every major city and then some.

As long as there's a demand, there will be a supply and the cartels/organizers have a lot more money than the government is currently spending. Thing is, the cartels will just charge more for their product if things get harder and people will pay. It's capitalism.

I dunno...El Paso is one of the safest US metro areas and is quite literally a stone's throw from Juarez.

It seems to depend on the area being reviewed/evaluated. There are some large, sparsely populated areas that would obviously have lower crime rates.
Going by CityRating.com, El Paso seems to be around the average, but definitely better than it was.
El Paso Crime Statistics: Texas (TX) - CityRating.com
According to Neighborhood Scout, for Violent Crime, the national average is 4 while for El Paso it's 4.55. For Property Crimes, the national average is 29.4 while for El Paso it's 27.98.
El Paso crime rates and statistics - NeighborhoodScout
It also depends on what/how a violent crime is defined as to whether it gets reported and how it gets reported.
