Unprecedented Maya Mural Found, Contradicts 2012 "Doomsday" Myth

Quote:
In the last known largely unexcavated Maya megacity, archaeologists have uncovered the only known mural adorning an ancient Maya house, a new study says—and it's not just any mural.

In addition to a still vibrant scene of a king and his retinue, the walls are rife with calculations that helped ancient scribes track vast amounts of time. Contrary to the idea the Maya predicted the end of the world in 2012, the markings suggest dates thousands of years in the future.

Even if they did predict the end of the world in 2012 it would have happened 7 months ago as the mayans could not have accounted for the (relatively) modern invention of the leap year.

I don't know how the Mayan calendar works (it may not count days), but many primitive calendars had would be corrected from time to time as needed, and had mechanisms to do so easily.

They may have but it does not sync up with our modern day calendar using gregorian leap years.

The date coincides with the winter solstice. Most primitive calenders use solstices and equinoxes. I trust them to get it right more than the Gregorian day counters.

find a new argument.

The Mayan calendar is cyclical. Once you reach the end, you go back to the beginning and start the count again. The cycles were a part of their culture.

...and the ends of cycles are supposed to be periods of change, not necessarily Armageddon with Zombies, but change is rarely peaceful.
