I would save up and get a large one that puts out 10-15 cfm at 150 psi. Don't forget to work out how you will dry the air. Wet and blasters don't mix.

Was looking at eBay just to get an idea and I didn't see anything over 6cfm when I had a top price of $400. I certainly won't pay that much for what little work I would do with it. At $400 we're talkin GUN MONEY lol.

This is bare minimum.
Campbell HausfeldŽ Portable 20 Gallon Cast Iron Air Compressor - 3301586 | Tractor Supply Company
This is about the bare minimum compressor, it's probably not going to keep up with a blast cabinet though. You'll probably be waiting quite a bit for it to fill.
There's what I have, and probably what you should be considering.
Ingersoll RandŽ 3 HP 60 Gallon Single Stage Air Compressor - 3496111 | Tractor Supply Company

Oiled for sure, it will last longer and less noisey. If your going to be blasting I'd say 30gal. at least and you might want to even consider a 60gal. IMO.
Take a look at Harbor Freight local or online even.

Look on CL. I picked up 2 60+ gallon tanks, motors and pumps for $300, just had to assemble one. Sold the other as spares for someone else to do the same for $125. I didn't want the horizontal one, so it went.
Anyway, I ended up with a 60 gallon Curtis compressor, it's 2 stage, oiled and is quiet as a mouse. All I had to do was bolt it back together, changed the oil and hooked up the electric.
I have a craftsman oil free 15 gallon upright for $100 if you want it. It's a noisy little bugger though.

Rusty, that price is more than twice what I would pay for this project.
I'll be blasting small parts when I need to, this won't be something I'll be doing every week let alone every day. Think I will be going with the biggest tank I can find with acceptable compressor numbers.

This is probobly the one I will go with:
2.5 Hp Air Compressor 10 Gallon 125 PSI - New FEDEX shp | eBay
Under $200, this was pretty much my max price for this product as I still have to buy a cabinet for $200.
Oiled
125psi max
5.3 at 90psi none of the others matched this, most were 5 or below.
10gal tank, most others were 8 gal.
See any obvious problems?
This is the cabinet I will probobly get,we had one just like it but it was a side loader.

Will get condensation inside..there is a drain cock on the bottom, open it slightly and the condensation inside will gurgle out.
Here down south with the HEAVY humidity its not rare to get ALOT of water in the tank after several hours of heavy usage
I was able to completely strip a rifle and other things with a simple air compressor and a sears sand blaster (using aluminum oxide media)
I would only blast for a second or two (ok..maybe 15-30 seconds at times), and wait a bit for the compressor to refill the tank. No worries
Plus with some ingenuity..you can increase your "tank" size by using propane tanks or even old freon tanks and some tubing...more tank volume you have the less the compressor has to cycle to refill said tanks
If you aren't going to be blasting ALOT...get one of the el-cheapos....but you will have to replace it sooner than one of the more expensive types...depending on how much you use it...it might save you money in the long run.

I have blasted a Saiga-12 w/ a pancake compressor and a hand-held blast gun. Worked OK, only had to wait a little for compressor cycling. Something like this.
I also used some black diamond grit with it.

You have to put in your zipcode to see prices. The campbell hausfeld was $370.
If you go with that one on fleabay, you're gonna be sorry. I have a pancake compressor with similar specs, and there's no way I could use it for blasting. It works good for nailguns, cleaning out computers, filling tires and whatnot.
It may say 5.3cfm, but it's probably not even close. I know a lot of people went this same route, and wound up getting a better compressor later on, either because the cheap one died, or couldn't keep up.
