Tampa Mayor - DENIED!
Tried to circumvent the Constitution by implementing a GUN BAN around the RNC. Governor (in his one sane thing done in office) slapped him down and said there would be no special concession made. You still won't be abler to carry sticks, water bottles, or poles, or water guns. Those he is banning. Idiot.
RNC 2012: The Road to Tampa: Buckhorn concedes defeat on gun ban - from TBO.com Breaking News
Quote:
At a hastily called press conference, Buckhorn said police will “train accordingly” to deal with the potential for gun violence.
Buckhorn said he wasn’t concerned with people licensed to carry concealed weapons, a list that used to include him.
He said he was more worried about one of those licensed weapons getting loose and landing in the wrong hands.
“Some of the people that will be here in August are not exactly model citizens,” he said. “I think even the most ardent 2nd Amendment supporter would understand why I made that request.”

And I would say NO, you fat fat-headed idiot!! Why yes, he's a Democrat. Why do you ask?

Where in the Constitution does it say that the Bill of Rights applies to the states?

NO the RNC is a Secret Service event, with full screening. The gun ban would have been in the "clean zone" that surrounds the forum and downtown...

Please note: Governor Scott cites the US Constitution and the Florida's State Constitution, both of which protect the Right of the Citizenry to Keep & Bear Arms.
This a$$hat wanted to Ban firearms from the entire Downtown area, from areas far and away removed from the RNC.
The RNC already has the entire Convention Center and the Secret Service's Safe Zone surrounding it, free of all legal & constitutional citizen borne firearms.
Nope, not good enough for this Libtard.
This guy has even banned string, yes string, and sticks...
Place armed guards around all the trees, they have sticks on them, anyone touching a tree is in possession of a dangerous stick.

The Secrets Service's Safe/Clean Zone surrounds the area immediately around the Convention Center, NOT all of Downtown Tampa.
The SS aren't stupid enough to try that... Yet.
It would be an un-enforceable ban, only those with criminal intent and either brandishing or actually shooting would be discernible from anyone else.
There is no way to check everyone entering the entire Downtown Tampa area that Buckhorn wanted to include.
Can you imagine being a mile away from any activity related to the RNC, still within the Downtown limits, and if you've any of the banned items, you're a criminal.
That is the ridiculousness of Buckhorn and his City Council.

I am sure the whole side of Tampa close by the RNC area will be on locked down by every cop, sheriff, marshal, FBI, CIA and SS plus who ever else shows up probably even the bridge on Platt St and the Crosstown Expressway.

The 'Due Process' clause of the 14th Amendment has been used to insure states do not run roughshod over the Bill of Rights. I thought you were a legal eagle law student type?

I would be OK with the idea that these 'protesters' who smash buildings, light fires, and flip cars had to be wary of incoming fire for once. They are NEVER dealt with effectively at ANY of these events.
If you place gasoline into a bottle, stick a rag in it, light the rag, and then throw it at someone YOU SHOULD BE SHOT DEAD.
