Maybe because Martin ran and hid? Kind of hard to get to the "detain" part when you lose sight of the person running away.
At what point did Z have the opportunity to detain?

While you all are opining on whether Zimmerman did anything wrong, HE WAS INITIALLY CLEARED of any wrongdoing. Cleared despite police reports that they were LOOKING to effect an arrest- "We wanted to arrest him, but we couldn't". It appears to me that he did everything right.
I'll say it again: Zimmerman's only real mistake was failing to carry a GOOD flashlight.

Where it GOT him was cleared of any wrongdoing. Only after external pressure was he (lamely, at that) jammed up. What they are now doing to him is the real crime here, and is the one thing that people should be paying attention to.

Only if you REALLY need to keep from having to admit that you were wrong all along can you equate those two. Doesn't matter anyway, because assuming it was an order (which it wasn't), it was an unlawful order.

I think M would like a word with you on what the real crime was.
Ohh, poor Z is being inconvenienced for being a dumba$$. Poor him.  His dumbassery got someone killed. He was wrong FIRST (a FACT which CANNOT be denied) by getting out of the car. M 'MAY" have been wrong in attacking (NOT a fact as we don't really know).
