We're having a discussion about the influence of the Allies, and of America in particular, in bringing the war to an end. I don't remember the specifics of what was said, but a number of students began making disparaging remarks about the United States and the Allied forces.

I spoke up immediately. "You all realize that we [America and the Allies] saved the world, don't you? Had we lost the war, you'd all be Nazis right now, if you hadn't already been killed."
Suddenly, a student at the front of the class let out a laugh in my direction and said, "Right! We saved the world! We swooped in wearing capes and we saved the world!" More laughter.

I couldn't believe it. I thought of the young soldiers vomiting in the landing craft as they approached the beaches of Normandy. Many of those guys were the same age as the students in this classroom, who were laughing at them. There's your generational decline, right there. One generation braves the Great Depression and then ships off to Europe to save the free world; another generation conquers Modern Warfare 4 on the Xbox and then ships off to college to deride the real soldiers who fought and died for their right to be imbeciles.

Sad but all too true These kids need to be educated more about what their grandparents/great grandparents actually did back in the day.

I've noticed this since i was in elementry school as a (younger) kid. I HATE my generation, its lazy, ignorant, spiteful, and thinks society "owes" them for blessing it with their pressence. Its sick and i cant understand why so many people dont even vote, and when they do many dont even know what they are voting for.

I would gladly trade places with somone who gave their life and fell in battle in WWII, but at the same time i would feel even WORSE for making that soul i traded places with be ALIVE , HERE and TODAY, to experience the current actual effeort to make their sacrifices be removed from history.

This new sad, selfish and sick - perception of society is "there is no America, just ME"

+ 1,000,000%, I am so sick of all these kids that are being given an education that is tearing this country apart. A swift kick would only be the start, followed by some serious hard work!

I'm young and can't stand kids today thinking the way they do. Some should have to see the most gruesome and horrible images available showing what the cost of their freedom really is. They feel entitled to everything. I may have never been able to serve but am proud of everyone who has.

Before that can happen, the flaming liberal teachers and professors in our colleges and universities (K-12 also...) need to be replaced with some REAL teachers that don't have a political agenda and will teach history the way history actually happened and keep their own political views totaly out of the conversation. What you see happening is our country is being generationally distroyed.
