How to Pick a Good Restaurant

Interesting tips. Some seem obvious, others kind of nuanced. The only one that may not hold true outside of large urban/trendy chef restaurants is the one about eating there right after opening. My dad was a chef and always said NEVER go to a new restaurant in the first month or so. Everyone is still new at the place and not up on the menu, cooking style, etc.

Pick a good restaurant? Depends on where you are. A few years ago we were out in Sundance, Wyoming and hungry. We drove up and down the main drag until I came to a small mom and pop restaurant with a bunch of dirty 4x4,s pulling cattle trailers parked nearby. The place was not very appealing, a bit run down and my wife second guessed my decision to eat there. The food was great, as were the prices. We have eaten there since with the same results.

For me I like to ask locals where a great spot. Most of the time they are right on the money. Specially around Boston locals know good eats for good prices!
