Lets just say I THINK I can get this right and if I don't I still have a back-up plan that doesn't include cutting off the end of the barrel lol.
Thanks guys.

It was probably not as far off as it looks. if its dragging on the internal baffles, it will throw the bullet off even further. Even if there was enough tolerance built in to prevent a catastrophic failure, it'll be enough to throw the bullet path off more than I'd like.
If you want to go for it, good luck. worst case, you'll be able to resell your new tools for not much loss.

ummmmm....lets just say I am tremendously familiar with the innards of a particular acoustic modulation device that may or may not be in my possession. If the pilot fits properly I think it will be a snap and allow me to expand said device's usefulness.
Also found a nice tutorial on, of all places, an SKS site lol.

Well it's done was a little hairy at first as the Marlins barrel was a bit too BIG! Some surgical application of an anglegrinder reduced the diameter to let the die run ( was extremely worried doing that as this lil gun and I have been together for 40+ years!! ) and it all came out fairly good ( might be perfect once I get a chance to bore check it ), a little detail work with the Dremel will clean up the last remaining bubba marks.
If you are a tinkerer and don't know what a "golf ball launcher" is, I suggest you check it out
Will try and get some pics up later tonight.
Thanks for all the help folks!

Wow, I wouldn't have even attempted to do that.
You didn't say it was for a golf ball launcher, that's different, no real need for precision there.
You ground down the OD of the barrel to get the die on there, I'm speechless, definitely wouldn't have done that myself. Ideally, you'd use a lathe for that.
I definitely wouldn't try this for a suppressor, even with a good lathe, test indicators, and knowing what you're doing, I've seen people screw it up. I don't think a die produces the thread tolerance necessary for a suppressor anyways. Even IF you managed to get the diameter perfect, and kept the bore centered with the grinder. Every time you took it off, and put it back on, it would move just because the thread fit would be too sloppy.
For a golf ball launcher, the bubba special barrel threading will probably be OK. I was genuinely concerned you'd lost your marbles when I first started reading this thread.

Lets just say, once the "golf ball launcher" is done it will be the third one I have built/installed over the last 20 years or so, this is just the first one with threads
I'm hopin to finish the gun tonight and put the rails and light back on my lil Dragunot, then finish the muzzle device by the weekend.

Dude there is really very little need for true precision even with a silencer, the length of a silencer in comparison with the bore and the threads means you would really have to screw it up big time to make inroads to a tolerance conflict. This isn't rocket science, if I could do it VERY successfully many years ago with nothing more than a steel pipe, two washers and a sheetmetal tube soldered together, this technique is pretty easy by comparison. My first one was a lawn mower muffler, a cardboard tube and some sort of plastic spacer I found somewhere and that one lasted ten years
There is an old fighter pilot saying "It's not the crate, but the guy FLYING the crate that makes the difference."
