Good one. I don't understand how writing off the debt Bush racked up into a credit balance funded by Americans at an ungodly interest rate is considered "getting us out" of anything. He actually made it worse. *cough*debt ceiling*cough*

Tsk tsk tsk...some people.

So basically I see an individual membership as just a fether in thier cap but unless you are writing them big checks or volunteering I don't see how it helps much.

I observe the same thing with many large charity groups. (stop sending me piles of personalized post cards and mailing address label, just spend my $$ on the fight please)
Derp derp? They do it because enough people take them up on the offer that it pays for sending it to those who don't. Direct Marketing Return on Investment 101. Oh, and the NRA didn't pay for the DVD, Personal Defense Network and its conglomoration of advertisers did. And they paid the NRA to rent the mailing list with your name on it. If you want to be pissed at the NRA, be pissed at them for using your name as a revenue-generating tool, otherwise really, put on your big boy 2012 pants.

Well, if you take some time to read how much money they poured into lobbying pro-gun legislation, I think you'd retract that statement. Far from it, the NRA has to put more and more money up in order to sway these politicians to vote in their favor.

In addition to my previous post, I think the NRA is a great organization and has done much for our rights. Do I think WLP deserves millions of dollars to go around fear mongering people into thinking "If you don't join us, Obama will take your guns away" or "Since Obama has been quiet about gun legislation, he's part of a secret conspiracy"? Absolutely not. I disagree with their tactics at this current point in time, but understand that for every dollar the NRA puts in an envelope, the opposition puts in two. It's getting more and more expensive for the NRA to keep paying lobbyists. This isn't some scare tactic, it's real life. Our politicians are for sale. That's why they're searching for cash. People sit around going "Oh our rights are fine right now, nobody is going to take them away." -Think again. I see this lax in opposition as the NRA's job well done at the moment. This is where your contributions were well spent.

In my opinion, cut the executive's salary to something under a million dollars. I would gladly go around telling members that the threat is at the state level and we need to persuade Illinois, California, and others to accept 2A rights. Heck, I'd do it for 40k per year plus benefits.

I do request that the American Rifleman stick to firearms only. I'm sick of the 16 pages of political ramblings and NRA sponsored events. Make a separate publication for that and volunteer to receive it. That's not going to get me writing letters or leaving the organization, however.

-Last of all-

If it bothers you to put email in it's appropriate folder or put your beer down to answer the telephone, then you really don't have the effort to whine about it. It takes me 10 seconds to clear my inbox and less time than that to reject a call. If you get the DVD's in the mail, keep them. They've already been paid for.

Apologies, I wasn't specifically naming you as the beer drinker, that was a response to others. I agree with your statements completely, just wanted to add researching where the money actually goes beforehand. WLP does NOT deserve to make millions of dollars of our money, but I don't believe they'd go to great lengths just to protect their salaries. Without Pro 2A legislation, what good is the NRA? We might want to consider writing them?

All is good and I do agree with most of your statements.
