I could see my gun range hosting a party like this, I could definitely charge to do it now that I have all the tools to do it right. Not interested just seems kinda predatory to do so.

I just DLed one of the assembly videos and then went to town on my build. Good instructions and I didn't have to pay for it or go someplace.

When I get the funds, I think I will go this route.
Brownells has a great group of videos and phone tech support to build an AR-15.
How to build an AR-15.
I'm fairly mechanical and can follow instructions well so I think this will work for me. Also this is a great Iowa company.

I "built" my first AR last year, a hunting rig in 6.8SPC. Prior to beginning I spent lots of time researching the myriad of options, brands, parts kits, etc., for uppers, lowers, barrels, stocks, forearms and watched the Brownell's videos Pyle's BBQ mentioned, in addition to advice I found on various forums.
I would have loved to have access to a one-stop learning experience, but as others have said, without knowing about the quality of the components, there is a good chance of disappointment in the final product. After all, particularly in an AR, it is the sum of its parts, and they need to be the right ones.

I "built" mine without ever knowing how beforehand. I put the lower together, but bought a completed upper which seems the cheaper way to go. The lower is easy-peasy to put together and only requires a few items. Then just slap the upper on.
I went with a RRA upper because I didn't know better, but will be buying a BCM upper in a week or so.

I hear lots of good things about BCM like quality, milspec, customer service, etc., but honestly, I don't think I could be any happier with my RRA entry tactical carbine I bought a couple of years ago.
It's been flawless, and the fit and finish is excellent. Luckily, I haven't had to rely on any customer service experiences, so I can't comment on that.

They're okay, but when I bought my upper, the bolt carrier group wasn't shot peened, high pressure tested, MPI tested, didn't have the M16 carrier, and the gas key wasn't staked. The barrel likewise wasn't high pressure tested, MPI tested, and I had to pay extra to have it chromed. The feed ramps from the receiver to the barrel aren't one smooth line/transition either.
For about the same price, I could have gotten BCM equipment that further has a 1/7 twist for heavier bullets, mil-spec barrel steel, etc.
The RRA upper has run without issue, though, so I can't really complain. I did replace the BCG with a BCM group. I want the BCM upper so that I can run heavier bullets.
