$50,000 to $60,000
Read an article that said the average cost of a self defense exchange of fire is $50-60K in legal fees. If you kill the guy the family sues you and if you don't the punk sues you himself. At least you stay alive.

Can you post the article? And if you followed the law then you shouldnt worry to much. IF they get away alive then you might see something that happen to IBWaldo families!

I think your numbers are a tad high. Especially if you're talking about a Castle Doctrine state.

One of my customers had the article. I live in a castle doctrine state but if you conceal carry you might not be at home. I looked online for the article and actually found a group that supports legal fees for concealed carry folks. It's called Armed Citizens something or another. I want to check them out more.

Not here in my state of Ky. We have "castle law" Its 100% legal to kill someone once they have broken into your home. See it on the news from time to time, burglar breaks in, gets shot, carried out in a bag, no charges filled.
Kentucky Castle Doctrine Deadly Force KRS503.080 KRS 503.080
In Kentucky the castle doctrine says that - there is no requirement to retreat when you are threatened with deadly force or when you are defending your home from an arsonist or burglar that is attempting to commit a crime.
- Under the castle doctrine you are permitted to use deadly force.

castle doctrine is pretty straight forward.
the itch becomes when your out of your home.
You need to be able to explain, under stress, why you shot someone.
With any luck, you will have witnesses and cameras to clarify your story.

Utah is working on passing a bill now that protects you from civil suits in any self defense situation.

In SC, if it's a righteous shoot, the victim can not be civilly sued for their actions.

ya but, a conviction and appeals combined with a wrongful death suite, will definitely cost way more than that. Average is average.
