That's because little dogs usually have owners who are MORONS; (some present company excluded I'm sure). But, I find the mindset of people that opt for a small toy breed completely different that the mindset of those that choose larger sporting dogs. (keep in mind, I'm speaking primarily of owners who own a single type/size of dog.)

People that own toy dogs also seem to have more liberal attitude; a save the whales, hug a tree type tendencies. They seem to want a dog primarily as a "pet" not a working partner; and they are far more apt to SPOIL their little muts than people who have a larger dog.

Conversely, most large breed owners recognize problems with allowing their dogs to behave badly. They seem to be more conservative & responsible as a group; because they know if something bad happens with their dog it can be disastrous.

My thoughts are not scientific. They were just derived over my 40+ years of observation in the dog owner world.

good!

i'm glad they removed the pitt bull ref! didn't have anything to do with an animal that has 'proven' to be vicious like ref in the first part of the sentance...it's like they left off german sheppards, dovermans and even a terrier that has attached and 'proven' to be vicious! def have a bill to control eliminate vicious animals, hanging it all as a pitt bull is just redick!

ETA meant to say, it's the owners that are the real problem, can they make a bill for stupid people...say like Mike Vick or someone that does not 'raise' a dog properly. putting it all on pitts is again redick!

I was walking my Akita the other day around the neighborhood. Anytime I see kids or anyone outside that shows any interest in him, I walk over and introduce them to the pup. It's good socializing for my boy.

Anyways, I come across two boys that are with a Chihuahua. I walk over with the intention of letting them pet my dog and let the two four leggers sniff each other up. That little bastard nipped up at my Akita. Thankfully, he's a patient dog, and he just backed up a bit and we went on our way.

Point being if my dog had retaliated, it would have been game over for the Chihuahua and the papers would report that a viscous Akita had mauled a sweet little Chihuahua. WE MUST BAN AKITAS!

Stats don't lie, but liars use statistics.

I had one growing up and he was a great dog, but i have seen some nasty ones. I've been attacked by 2 dogs in my life and both were "good" breeds.

Exactly!
Irresponsible "small" dog owners seem to get a pass by the uninformed public. But, if you own one of the gladiator breeds the same public is ready to hang you by the gonads at the slightest sign of aggression; even if it wasn't your dog that started it.

getting bit by a drop kick dog is like getting shot by a pea shooter. Pit bulls are more like the .50 Desert Eagle.

That's true of any dog over about 40 pounds or so.

LOL!

But, little dogs have killed and/or maimed several children even infants in the past few years. However, these stories rarely make any headlines because a little girl getting her nose chewed off by a small dog while she sleeps just isn't as exciting.

I'll share a personal example;
I have a couple of neighbors with small to medium size dogs. One of these neighbors also has goats. Both neighbors refuse to spay or neuter and allow their dogs to roam freely.

A few years ago one of the neighbors medium size dogs attacked & bit my son while he road his bike down our driveway. My son will have scars from this attack the rest of his life. But, do you think the media was interested in this event?

NO; because it wasn't a "pitbull". If it had been one of my pitbulls that bit the neighbors kid I can guarantee you I would have made the local news at the very least.

One of the yappy mutts at my other neighbors kept coming on my property and messing with my horses and every time we walked our dogs his mut would come out and attack us & my dogs. My wife, kids & my dogs have all been attacked & bitten. But, do you think anyone gives a $h!+ that his dogs are VICIOUS?

Hell NO!

But, the one time my dog moves to protect my son from another bite. All of the the sudden, my dog is considered the big mean vicious pitbull. TG, we have some common sense pet laws here; or my dog would've been taking into custody & put down for "PROTECTING" my son.

That same neighbor has goats. His goats have damaged my fence and eaten more grass on my property that I can even comprehend. However, one day one of his goats got a little to close to one of my dogs while my son was trying to herd the goat off our property & back to the neighbors. (Anyone who has owned goats knows how stubborn & mean a "Billy" can be.)

My neighbor had the gall to tell my son he wants $50 for my dog killing his goat. A goat that had damaged my fence repeatedly & spent more time grazing on my grass than it did on my neighbors.

Like I said; people that own smaller dogs seem to have a completely different mindset.
