I think we have decided on a Subaru Forester. This one is for the wife so I am letting her decide and I am just trying to steer her away from things that are crappy.

Subaru seems to make a good vehicle. I'll suggest looking at the infiniti G series but I am biased because that is what I drive.

They hold their value very well and seem to last a long time if taken care of. They also always get very good crash test ratings, and have one of the best AWD systems there is.
A friend of ours had a Forester, and now owns an Outback, and we have both had the chance to drive each of them.
