pretty much the only way to do it without specialized equipment, takes time, and ruins the most expensive component. Shooting it is how I unload mine.

it was a heavy projectile that was not shot even close to straight up. It would have plenty of energy

The bullet has to stay on a ballistic trajectory, in other words it has to be shot at an angle even if it slight the bullet will travel in a big arc and still have enough velocity and it'll still be spinning on its way down...If a bullet is fired perfectly and I mean perfectly strait up in the air it will go up until it uses up all it's energy then fall at terminal velocity on it's side with no spin..This is all hypothetical of course

The police followed a trail of blood. How long/far did the poor kid make it. Do the Amish believe in modern medicine(did they call an ambulance?)? The guy should face charges for sure, but the odds are astronomical. The wind, atmosphere temp, humidity, elevation, speed of girls travel, the jostling of the wagon, her position in the wagon. There are probably more factors than I can think of.
It would take a miracle to make a similar shot on purpose. I don't think Vegas would give odds on that.
That is just a horrible tragedy for both families.

That was my point. Do they have phones? Did they try and get her help? IF this had happened to you or me while driving or walking would we survive because of the quick availability of modern medicine. They tend to live a bit away from any thing we would call a modern convenience. How long did it take from the time she was shot to her getting help?
I'm not trying to **** on their way of life. Just wanting to know what was done for her. It just sounds like she rode a ways before getting whatever help she got.

That was my thought too. I know sniper bullets can kill at a 1.5 mile range, but that's what they're built for. How does a muzzle loader accelerate a bullet enough to have it still have killing velocity at that distance?

Have you ever wondered how there is anyone left in the middle east.
Every time you see the news everyone is shooting in the air. Really dumb.
