For a pocket knife, I recommend the Spyderco Tenacious. I've been EDC'ing one for the past 7 months and it's been a great knife for me (see my thread on it in the Cold Steel knife sub forum) It's lightweight, ergonomic, comes razor sharp, good pocket clip and costs like $29. The SOG Flash series are also good choices, as is the Kershaw Skyline, all of which run in the $30-45 range.
For a multi-tool, any of the Leatherman line will serve you well, it just depends on how heavy-duty your needs are and what specific things you plan to do with it. I say that either the Blast, Wave, or Charge would all be good all around options, depending on what tool sets you want/need. The Wave and Charge have replaceable bits on the screwdrivers, but the Blast doesn't. The Blast is a successor to the original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool (PST) and has similar tools, but also includes a saw, scissors and a small bit driver that the PST lacks.
Here's a good source to get all of those items for good prices and good service. I've ordered from them myself several times and they're great:
Cutlery Shoppe
Hope this helps!

Columbia River m16 series or a SOG for the knife, SOG Power lock for the multi tool. Both are kinda expensive, but if you use them a lot, you will find them worth it.

Another vote for the Leatherman Skeletool. I love mine. Lifetime warranty too.

I've let Santa know that a small tool set geared towards firearms would find a happy home in my range bag, along with a small tube of blue LocTite. Chapman makes one, and there are quite a few on Midway's website that should fill just about any need, from basic to pretty extensive. While multi-tools have their place, I wouldn't want to chance of boogering up one of my guns by using one instead of a proper tool.
This whole thought process started on my last trip to the range, when I noticed the set screw on the rear sight of my Springfield 1911 had backed about halfway out. Screwed it back in as far as I could by hand, but could only get it so far, and didn't want to take a chance on losing it.
As far a pocket knives go, I don't go anywhere without my Kershaw in my pocket.

Yea it's a really handy tool to have in your pocket all the time. Only a little thicker than a blade only tool. The best thing I like about it is the quality of the phillips head bit. I've used it for everything I can find in the last year and the bit is still in perfect shape. It hasn't rounded or deformed one bit with repeated usage.
The one I have model c304/C305 is retired, but was replaced my the new model, c33T/c33Tx. (the Tx has the half serrated blade like mine). You can get it with silver or black tools.
