Kansas CCW update

For all of us Kansans out there...

Did anyone catch the CCW story on the news last night?? It was a little saddening to watch.

As July 1st is coming sooner and sooner, which is the day we will be able to apply for a CC permit, evidentally no one knows what is supposed to be covered in training. The news channel here in Wichita went to a range and interviewed both customers and range employee/instructors. The training instructor said there is already a list of at least 200 ppl signed up for training classes, but the State has not issued the guidelines on what must be taught. So, July 1st may come, but no one would be able to do anything. They say that State legislators are hard at work to get the guidelines out ASAP.

Also, the permit will cost $150 and will not be issued until January 2007.

Were they smart enough to overwrite pre-emption laws, unlike Nebraska?

Not sure if that is worded correctly, but Nebraska cities can overrule the new state CCW law. Dumbasses

Its not a matter of anyone being a dumbass; but rather the political realities of getting a shall issue bill passed. You can't get everything you want the first time around. But my understanding is the legislature will be working on a pre-emption bill next session.

Yeas, but it took over 10 years just to get to this point

Reciprocity! I want Reciprocity!!!

So, I won't be able to carry when I visit the GF's family over the Christmas holidays...hmm, maybe by December 2007 I won't have to disarm at the border??? There goes my last excuse to not visit the (might as well be) inlaws.

KS ccw law has pre-emption language in it. Cities may not override the law and ban concealed carry.

I have some news. I spoke with the KS Assistant District Attorney. He told me that they are looking at a 150 page document from Minnasota. They are looking to use Minnasota's requirements to give CCW in KS. In other words, they will make the training required for a CCW in KS the same as Minnasota. Further, they will reciprocate any state that has the same standards that they require for a KS concealed license. He was very helpful to all of my questions. Especially when I mentioned I was a Special Agent for the Department of Defense.....
