Private party gun sale in MN. What is required?
My co worker bought my Sig from me. We haven't done the transaction yet. I plan on writing up a bill of sale for the pistol. Here are the two questions I have...
Since it's a private party sale what info should I write on the bill of sale beside names, addresses, DL# of the people involved?
Does he need a Permit to Purchase from me? Or because it's a private party there won't be any paperwork involved he doesn't need one?
I just wanna make sure that if something were to happen down the road (he sells it, get stolen, or god forbid it's used in a crime) I don't want it to come back and bite me. I know my Dad's Ruger is still in the name of his old co worker. And when that gun was stolen he was kinda worried about what would of happened if the guns were used in a crime. Would he be in trouble?
I did google the subject but didn't really see any good info.

There's a permit thing.
Your co worker has to go get a "transferee permit" thing from the cops. It appears to be kinda like Michigan. It also applies to "military style semiautomatic assault rifles" .
NRA-ILA ::
Not sure you want that info out there about your dad's ruger.

Sounds complicated... I'll have to contact the Sheriff's office on Monday and get that transfer permit deal thingy...

That's not the way it works.
YOU would have to do a transfer report, which I didn't get whether that was an FFL only thing, or a private seller could do it. Pretty sure it doesn't work that way. I think your co worker will have to go get the transferee permit.
In Michigan, even if we buy from an FFL, we have to get a purchase permit. Go to the sheriff's dept, and get a yellow card that has 4 separate copies of the same BS on it that has to be filled out by hand. One goes to the seller, or FFL, one goes to you, and the others are for them. They used to use the excuse it was a "safety inspection", now they don't even want to see the gun.

I work with him tomorrow. I'll let him know what I found out. I won't sell it to him without the proper paper work done on it.

Wait, didn't you just get the Sig? If you're selling it, save that cash and move out dude.

I traded for the Sig last month. I did the paper work through a FFL dealer so the handgun is in my name.

One thing about MN that I don't like about the gun laws. If this was a long gun I was selling him All I would need to do is write up a bill of sale, and it would be good. But since this state requires a permit to purchase it makes things more complicated.
