Is this anti-gun non-sense?

Tell me someone.. is this possible?

Maid Of Honor Takes Bullet During Bouquet Toss
Woman Not Seriously Injured In Shooting

POSTED: 8:55 am CDT May 3, 2006
UPDATED: 1:37 pm CDT May 3, 2006

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A North Texas bridesmaid was struck by a stray bullet while preparing for the bouquet toss at her best friend's wedding reception.

Strange things are known to happen at weddings, but one North Texas woman has a story that can top most after being struck by a stray bullet fired from more than a mile away.

Maid of Honor Kristin Campbell, who is an employee at NBC 5, was having a great time at her best friend's wedding in Houston and was about to make a go for the bouquet when she was shot.

"I didn't hear anything. I just knew I had a hole in my arm," said Campbell. "It was painful, but it wasn't terrible, but it did feel like I was shot. There was really no other way to describe it."

The bullet traveled far, more than a mile, and had lost most of its power after smashing through the roof of the ballroom where the reception was being held, NBC 5 reported.

The bullet fell out of Campbell's arm and onto the dance floor.

"Apparently, some man was upset and just fired his gun into the air about a mile away from where we were. The bullet just came through the roof and into my arm," said Campbell. "It's just a freak event."

For a few minutes after the shooting, no one could figure out what happened.

"I just was so shocked, how can she be hurt ... we didn't hear anything, we didn't see anything, why would she just start bleeding?" said bridesmaid Elissa Winder.

The wound didn't bleed much and Campbell is making a full recovery.

Campbell said the person who fired the shot should be punished.

"I do think it was terribly reckless and there should be charges. But I'm fine, just incredibly lucky and no one was badly hurt when they could have been," said Campbell.

Now I have looked up the math about terminal velocity:

From NASA,

I am not buying this story. The woman claims that a bullet, shot from one mile away into the air.. after expending all it's energy fell to the ground. After penetrating the roof of the ball room roof of her wedding was still able to fall into and through her arm.

That just doesn't sound right.

I've seen this brought up a lot here among my friends and I, and I really wonder. I know that show Mythbusters did something concerning this (or is going to) but I haven't seen the episode. I do know, though, that until I get proof or not that it's dangerous, I make sure not to fire in the air. But going thru the roof sounds mighty suspicious. However, I'm sure it is theoretically possible, if it was something more than a 9mm (perhaps 7.62?) that just happened to go thru the roof at the right angle. There are far too many factors that could affect it.

But then again, I'm the last person who should comment on it... I bombed out of physics.

SHOOT!!

I meant to post this to the General discussion forum. This really isn't a political subject. The math geeks don't hang with us here..

Moderators, could you move this?

I saw the news clip on TV as she was pointing to a wound on her shoulder.

I wonder when they say 'roof' what are they talking about. Glass, wood, ?

I doubt it. A few kids have been killed by taking one to the head like this in phoenix.

A bullet fired straight up can not injur or kill when it falls to the ground. However, a bullet fired at a high anlge of attack can. The bullet retains it ballistic trajectory and spin so it falls back to the ground much faster.

We had started discussing that yesterday here too: http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=36066

But I'm hoping it will soon stop. She seems to know the shooter, since she knows it was a man, that he was upset, and he was a mile away. She must be a ballistics expert or something. From her picture, she didn't seem that.... what's the PC word.... bright? Besides, she was at a wedding reception. She was probably drinking there. She didn't feel a thing.

I still believe it was punishment for that ugly green dress.

Here is a link to the article http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/9154488/detail.html

It would seem impossible if the bullet was just falling from the sky. If it came in at an angle and still had force from the powder behind it, it could be possible

I think what happened was the man who fired the pistol was arrested for doing so and they happened to match the bullet that hit the woman to his gun. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what I read.

Do you know where this story can be found? I have been searching, and I can't find a single substantiated report of a person who has been killed by a falling bullet.
