Get your brother-in-law
1. Lots of brand new, high quality mags.
2. Some better sights. Tritium would be nice.
3. A really nice holster and mag pouches would be a good idea.
4. Replacement springs for the mags and the guide rod.
5. Some really good dry lube and a cleaning kit. Compressed air cans will help get the small grit out of the tight spots.

By the way, what branch, MOS and rank is he?
+1 . He really needs a good thigh holster (kydex or hard plastic preformed)

Not so fast with the thigh holster. If he is out on the ground a lot that's ok. But, if he's in a vehicle more often, a chest rig is better. Thigh holsters are cumbersome in a humvee or a truck. That's why I asked about the branch, MOS and rank.

It's not a matter of maintenance on the mags, it's that they buy after market mags. Buy him some authentic Beretta mags and it will be appreciated.

Tactical Tailor, G-Code, Safariland (6004) and so on all make very nice tactical mil-spec holsters if you choose to purchase him something like that.

I honestly figured it would be a "no go".
As others have mentioned it is usually a no no. The Air Force detachment I was assigned to for working on remote sites had a few M870 shotguns loaded with saboted slugs that we could take along for bear protection (brown, black, and polar bears). Some of the guys I worked with knew that they weren't the easiest to grap in a hurry and didn't mind if I brought my .44 Mag Desert Eagle along in the field. I could not do this with all the guys I worked with as I couldn't trust a couple of them to kep their mouth shut. But if anything ever happened I would have had a lot of explaining to do.

I agree with the mags and springs. My brother is out there right now, US Army 4th Infantry Division. My dad and I set him with 4 new mags, 4 mag springs and good gun care items. I cant recall what my dad picked up in that area. We were also going to get him a custome fitted vest w/ a rifle plate with the worry that the Army wouldn't issue him a good one due to lack of supplies, but his whole group got new vests, 2 new M-249 saws or M16's (he got the saw), one w/ night sight optics and the other w/o and the MP9.

My bro called yesturday, he's doing ok out there. He's based out of Taji, 20 miles NW of Badbad. It's good to know he's still ok, he's having squad leader conflicts. I guess the pressure is getting to the commanders out there and they are pressuring the solders alot. Plus the 120*+ heat.

I wish him well and thank him for his service to our great nation.

Do you know where they will be sending them?
