Duty boots: any recommendations?
I'm looking at a security job this summer (race tracks, music festivals and concerts, etc.) that will mean a lot of hours on my feet. When I meet with the potential employer this week, I'll find out a lot more about uniforms and footwear. In the meantime, I'm always on the lookout for good footwear.
Any recommendations on duty boots for a hot, humid environment...and a wearer with flat feet and insufficient padding on the bottoms of her bony 'lil feet? |

I recommend the Danner Striker GTX boots. They are Gore Tex lined. It's waterproof yet breathable. I would stray away from actual leather. Hot and sweaty feet make for a miserable time. I stick to synthetic materials. They make an insulated and non-insulated model.
Footwear is something I don't ever skimp on. You might to check out the Hi-Tec boots as well as Rocky. Oakley makes nice duty boots also. My friends all swear by them. |

Do a search for 'boots" in the LEO section. There were several good threads about duty boots.

hands down, get a pair of 5-11's...... Ive tried many different brands and the 5-11's are the best thus far. Ive had rockies (waaaay overpriced now for some reason), bates makes some good ones but not as comfy as the 5-11's, I had the oakley-very comfy but the soles are so soft they wear away very very fast........converse make a new boot for LE and swat operations which look pretty good, but Ive yet to try them as Im very very pleased with the 5-11's.

I work in a deli, im on my feet for 8 hours a day. I wear redwing boots. Now at first i was like omg, 150 bucks! No way. then I tryed them on. they are the most comfortable boot i own. They are kinda heavy but well worth the comfort. I have big feet, 15H... Well they are roomy an fit perfectly. i have now found a pair of black wolverines in my size again. they are actually alittle bigger than my redwings but they are actually about apound and a half lighter. I also picked redwing because there American made, they had my size. and they support my body very well..

Olivia, realize that many of the replies are from men....and not all companies that do men's shoes/boots well, are equally good when it comes to sizing and comfort for women.
Over the years, I have had Rockies (1985!), Timberland, Smith & Wesson (I have no idea who really made them), and now Irish Setters by Red Wing, all allegedly in women's sizes. Probably the best fit was the Rockies, but they were so long ago, I could not honestly tell you that things are the same 20+ years on. Your best bet is to ask around at your local PD/EMS to the women who use them daily.

You could check out Gall's for a list of women's duty boots. It'll at least give you a list and an idea on price. Plus, when you click on a specific boot, there may be comments and a rating by owners of the boot, too.
http://www.galls.com/category2.html?...talog&cat=2799 I'm not advocating ordering footwear online w/out trying it on first somewhere. This is more just for research purposes.
