Just occured to me

That while I was sitting at the courthouse today getting my renewal on my CCW that this $15.00 fee (35.00 new applicant) was a tax. And that more and more the law abiding citizen is being taxed by these stupid ridiculous fees. I understand other states make you pay more which I think is nuts. If the fees were to pay for a class that would be one thing which I would fully support cause in GA any Joe can get a gun and a CCW as long as he is not a criminal. But it don't mean he is a competent enough to carry a loaded firearm.

Maybe it's cause it's tax time which also means I gotta renew my tags on my cars and bike, and this year get new driver Lisc. and Gun Permit. Can't wait for the Fair-Tax I spent $500.00 in fees and permits today.

EDIT yes I know the Fair tax does not do much for these fees and taxes. But it will help with my Income Taxes which I could really use...

Well, I'd say the 15$ fee goes to help pay for the processing fees of keeping up with the paperwork, the cost of the salaries of the people who do the background checks, and stuff like that. Yeah, it still may be crappy. And I know some people don't think there should be any laws against carrying concealed, but since there are laws, making sure the right people can carry does cost money.

I would call it a processing fee.
Maintaining the office, staff, files, mail, the cost of the materials used in making the card, etc.

I understand that the paperwork and whatnot costs money, but it kinda irks me that we are expected to pay something that is supposed to be one of our fundamental rights. If the gov't started chaging a fee to those who exercised their 1st ammendment rights, there would be an uproar.
I'm probably a bit too idealistic, but I wonder if our rights are headed down a slippery slope.
