I apply my "Shoot whichever gun YOU like" sentiment to cars: "Drive whichever car YOU like". No need to bash people for their preference in cars. If they enjoy driving it, then that's all that really matters. I know how to drive a manual, but my BMW is an automatic and I wouldn't change a thing. I love that car.

I prefer a manual. I like the control I have over the power band and I think it is just plain fun to drive. I own a Firebird in a man. and I would not have it any other way. It took me about 6 months to find the right one (low milage, cood condition, good price, and manual transmission.)[/i]

Of coarse you are probably driving a Ruf RGT which I guess would qualify you as capable of bashing the posers who buy 911 Turbo Tips.

So tell, me, how fast is your exotic car?

I've driven a (highly modded) 911GT2! It certainly wasnt mine though. It worked at a place called Ovation Audio/Video and a customer hired us to install a nice audio/video/nav system in it. At the time one of our best installers was in Ohio so he let us drive the car from Indiana to Ohio. I didnt actually go on the trip but he let us drive the car around for several days. I was in the passenger seat when one of the other employees drove it over newly installed LARGE speed bumps @ about 74MPH!!! It bent all four rims, damaged some suspension and part of the rear wing actually flew off the car!
The guy wasnt even that mad. He also had an H1, a Bentley an F-40 and a Twin Turbo Testarossa (sp?) with Nitrous-Without the Nitrous the car put down 1100 HP!!!! I didnt drive that one.

I've had a supercharged BMW 3 series that was fairly modded. It put down 303 RWHP on 9lbs. of boost. The car weighed nothing (as I stripped it down) and it was plenty fast for me. I also had a 1993 Mustang Cobra with a Paxton supercharger and other mods years ago...its was in the 400 HP range and was the fastest AND worst handling car I've ever owned. I've done 140MPH+ on highways and those days are over.

I now drive a 1992 full size Bronco-80 MPH is fast enough for me.

For the record, all of my "sports" cars were manuals.

Last time I did 140 on the highways was, hmmm...December. I had the car up to 140 for a brief period. But for about an hour I was cruisin at around 125mph. Before everyine gets up in arms, it was LEGAL. I drove between Stuttgart and Munich on a Sunday morning.

Hopefully next week I get a fast enough car to drive fast again. My last trip I got a crappy Seat (its a spanish car pronounced "Say - aaahht"). Damn thing wouldn't go over 106mph and became unstable at about 90mph. I was POed. I had reserved an audi, and got a Seat.

I find out Monday if and when I go back to Germany (that means leave sometime between tuesday and Friday if I go). I like drving fast when its safe.

M3s are nice cars. I just like cars from Zuffenhausen better than from Munich....

For work I had the opportunity to drive an 911-4 for a weekend.
To my initial dismay, it was not a stick, it was Tiptronic. I put almost 800 miles on it between Friday and Monday; multiple Mullholland, Kanan, Decker, and 405/Sunset blasts. I didn't entirely miss the clutch.
It shifts instantly, and the kicker was trying to mis-time shifts through corners- it would compensate and what should have been nightmareish power transition just turned into a challenging steering response issue.
If one HAS to have a really, really, expensive car that is ultra-hi performance in an urban area, I, reluctantly will no longer give anyone grip about certain automatics. Porsche Tiptronic is amazing.
It's like giving someone a hard time for using one of those Zeiss rangefinder scopes. You have $3500 for a scope and don't want to make calculations for shots between 100 and 500 yards? Fine if you've got the dough.

My Porsche 944 turbo was pretty darn fast. Some small mods, and I had about 300 hp in a 2600 lbs. package. I hit 160 and ran out of road. My buddy's lt4 corvette was fast enough too. Too bad I had to sell the Porsche..., the wife said it had to go after installing a third engine... she had the nerve to say it was a piece of crap!

I have one sitting in my garage. It needs some updates, as most of the engine work (power mods) was done almost 10 years ago. There have been advances in engine management since. There was something wrong of at 300hp (I am assuming rwhp) you had two engines go out. The weak link in these engine is head studs. At high boost levels, they will blow headgaskets without better studs.

I run 19psi of boost on actual pump gas that can be bought at any gas station (as opposed to the gas stations with 100 octane pump gas).

For the money, these are amazing cars. Mine has a long kill list of cars that I don't think it should have been able to beat. The only vette that I have lost to was a blown vette. I have beat blown mustangs, the little ricer imports (WRX STis, etc). What also good is the car handles well and stop well. My car was clocked at 179 on certified radar during the pony express race. I just paly with the car though. I do a little bit to it here and there. Last summer I put in solid bushings. The handling is great, but now I feel every little impefection.

Anyways, before I get too off coarse, you should have stood up top your wife. Mine is always wanting me to get rid of the car and the hayabusa. My answers is always that I will do it if I can have a 911 Turbo (preferably a 993 Turbo as it is my foavorite body style). She shuts up quick.
