How to take my XD on a trip??????

I need some help fellas. I was wondering can I take a pistol with me on a flight as check in baggage? I will be legal to carry the handgun in that state and I will not be flying into any Non Handgun Cities (ie New York, Chicago ect.) Also have any of you all done it and would you be comfortable doing it? Will I be able to carry ammo on the flight?

Easy
Must be in a locked box inside the bag
When you get to your check-in Declare I have a hand gun in my bag.
They may ask you to show it's clear
Then lock the box has to have some type of pad lock trigger locks do not count.Follow bag to tsa They may ask you to open but more than likely they will give you the thumbs up.
I would reccomend take some colored zip ties tie the zippers on the bag.
Will make it easier to identify your bag and know it has not been tamperd with.

Ammo goes in you seconed checked bag. Most airlines like it in a factory box I also put all my mags in a seprate bag

As RT said, you can travel with your gun, you just have to follow a couple of guidelines. Also, you might want to check with the airline that you will be using, becuase some have additional regualtions.

I have traveled with a handgun 5-6 different times and have never had a problem. The only other advice I can offer you is to show up a little bit earlier in case you run into any problems.

I think it makes sense to bring a copy of the company (and in this case TSA also) policy regarding the transport of firearms.

Have fun, be safe.

I would like to add that when you declare you have a weapon "DO NOT" call it a gun. You would like to declare a handgun. And get used to some cop molesting your gun while at the airport checking to be sure it is unloaded. And answering 21 questions to go along with that.

You just attract the "probing" type..

I have traveled hundreds of times and never had a single person other than the counter Bim and the TSA "attentive type" interact with me.

It's no big deal, people do it all the time.
