Washington was one of the first states to have "Shall Issue" carry permits. I've had mine for 17 years. Basically the only places you can not carry are bars, schools, jails, mental hospitals, and court houses. The State has Preemption, no cities, towns, municipalities can have laws that are more restrictive or inconsistent with State laws. The gun laws are pretty much the same from county to county, city to city. Washington is "Stand your Ground", no duty to retreat. If some one breaks into your house you can use deadly force, the intruder does not have to be armed. There have been cases of a home owner shooting an intruder in the back as the intruder was running away out of the yard. It was justified, no charges were filed. Washington has a law that says if you are charged and tried in court for self defense and you are acquitted then the State has to pay for all your expenses in defending yourself. As you know that can be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Thats good for us because the State prosecutors have to be absolutely sure before they charge you. I would not live anywhere else. The natural beauty of the area is amazing. I'm a hardcore fisherman and love the outdoors. There are lakes, rivers and the salt water 10 minutes from my house and I live in Seattle, 5 minutes from downtown. You can go from the cold, deep salt water in Puget Sound or the Pacific Ocean, to fresh water lakes and rivers in miles and miles of thick Forrest, to snow in the mountain passes at 5000 feet, to a desert in eastern Washington in 4 hour drive. I was born here and plan to die here.

Sucks for a lot there pal because there's not many states that allow NICS to be bypassed with a CHL. For some reason I cannot find the list on the FBI or ATF site...it used to be there.

That is a very interesting State Law Damon, the one which if you are aquitted after being tried in a self defense case the State has to pay for your defense fees, strange law.
Washington sounds like it has what you want if you wish to live your entire life there..

Dang, that sucks. Oh well, got mine already!
Texas has a similar situation wheras if you have your CHL, they don't put you through the NICS check. Sadly, I'm still waiting to fulfill my residency requirements before going for my CHL. It's killing me. Although, as I was reading this, one thing popped into my head...who goes to buy a gun @ 9:00 in the morning?? I guess its not completely incocievable. Most of the stores around me don't open up until 10:00...thus handles that problem. |

Purchase Permit?
What is a purchase permit? Do you have to wait days to receive a gun after having purchased it? Does the purchase permit cost you anything?
Here in Alabama I just walked into Academy Sports, filled out the paperwork, they did the NICS, I payed the cashier and I was out the door with my new XD40. Bought my Steyr M40A1 at the local gunstore and it was the same process. If I have to go through that much hassle that some of you are mentioning here when I transfer to a new duty station (Military) then I guess I will have to acquire all the firearms I want within the next year before I transfer. Or hopefully my next duty station will be in a non liberal state where I will be able to enjoy walking in, paying up, NICS done and out the door with my new pride and joy. |

Here I don't believe they sell firearms on Sundays. Most businesses are closed.
Cheers

All are great laws Damon, especially the one about the State having to pay your legal fees if you are acquitted. I'm glad for what we do have but that would be even better. It might slow down alot of these overzealous D.A.'s (can stand for whatever suits you) from trying to make a record for themselves at honest (and legal) taxpayers expense. Texas has the new travel law and from what I hear, there are Prosecutors all over that are refusing to recognize it and going ahead with charges against people who are 100% legal. The term "Wrongful Prosecution" comes quickly to mind.
