Anyone taken pet rats on a plane?

My nephew is coming to visit me for most of the summer and he says he needs to take his pet rats with him on the airplane. He has a traveling cage he is planning to bring and will put it under the seat in front of him.

Has anyone ever done this before? Is it something that's ok to do?

I guess I don't mind having him bring the rats, but I'm not sure what the airlines or other passengers might think!

I know more and more airlines are allowing small animals on planes, but they're usually cats or dogs. I recommend he call the airline and see what they say.

Just when I thought I'd seen it all on this forum..

I guess he can buy them their own seat on the plane for the cage..
I doubt they will let him keep a cage in his lap or in the overhead compartment..

I hope there are no snakes on the plane...

great...another plot for a Samuel Jackson movie...

call the airline to find out....an no offense...I hate when people are allowed to bring animals on planes....I'm sorry....but my last two flights I got stuck sitting next to people with those little yappy dogs.

I would definitely prefer some rats to yapping dogs, but I know a few women that might think differently. I am sure it will be fine. Check with the airline.

it should not be a problem. I am sure he will need to get a certificate of health from the vet and there will also be a fee that the airline will charge. We brought a kitten that my wife absolutely had to have once from Oregon to VA. we had to have the cert of health from the vet and pay 80 bucks even though the kennel fit under the seat. Call the airline to make sure. Also, what is he going to do with them once he gets to you? Are you going to provide a cage for them? I also wouldnt let them out of your sight or you may start having glitches in your wiring. I had a pet rat and my golden retriever figured out how to open the cage and the 2 would chase each other all around the house and then a phone would quit working. Lucky for her she never chewed a lamp cord.

Pack Rats Make Fine Pets...If You Love Rats!

Years ago we live trapped a baby male pack rat and instead of killing it, give it to a lady friend's son. Within a few weeks the rat was completely tamed and friendly. Used a cat litter box.

The local vet just laughed and neutered it and gave it all its shots. Packman grew up to be HUGE....as big as a small cat. He was well behaved, affectionate and learned many tricks.

The only problem was when lady friends were visiting my lady friend, they would freak out when Packman jumped in their laps wanting to be petted. HB of CJ (old coot)
