Hey, wait a second....photo number #5, with the two aircraft....the nearest one is obviously an F-5, left over from the Shah's time. But is the far bird an F/A-18 Hornet? It sure looks like one....
EDIT: Nevermind, it's another F-5. The white paint across the top of the fin made it look like it had twin tails, and I focused on the that.

Again, the actual defeat of the regular forces would be easy, but the insurgency would be just as bad or worse than it has been in Iraq/AFG.

IIRC the F-5 doesn't have radar. It has to be guided in by AWACS or ground based radar. The US still uses, for now, the 2-seat trainer version for fighter pilot training. The Iranian AF uses a lot of old US jets and old Russian jets. It would be fairly easy pickings for the USAF and USN aircrews. You can bet that they would put up one helluva fight though.
I would see a strong insurgency in a ground war, should we end up in a war with Iran. The Iranians would put up a much better fight than we saw in Iraq, it is part of their culture and they actually train for war. If it were a standard war, not like the one we are in now, the US would win but it sure wouldn't be a low casualty war.

Would it be easier if we nuke the country flat?
