OHIO gun LAWS Changed UPDATE 3-16-06
update at TOP of this post:
Ohio House allows restrictions on access to conceal-carry permits ASSOCIATED PRESS COLUMBUS — The Ohio House voted today to allow restrictions on reporters’ access to the names of people holding concealed weapon permits, a last-minute addition to a bill meant to improve access to open records. The proposal still must pass the Senate. Gov. Bob Taft has said repeatedly he would veto any bill restricting access to the names. The GOP-controlled House approved the restriction 51-43 along bipartisan lines with some Democrats supporting the restrictions and some Republicans opposing it. The surprise move put a damper on efforts by Rep. Scott Oelslager to pass the open records bill, introduced more than a year ago but hung up for months over the awarding of attorney fees and the timeliness of providing records. Current law allows reporters to ask the sheriff of each county for a list of all people allowed to carry hidden guns. The measure approved today allows permit holders to direct sheriffs not to release their names. ------------------------------------------ original post : Copied from buckeye firearms email they sent me: Today the Ohio House of Representative passed Sub HR 347. This bill will reform and improve concealed carry and improve the safety and security of our state. The substitute bill was the result of strenuous efforts by Representative Aslanides (R-94) and gun rights groups to address concerns of interested parties while still maintaining as much of the original bill as possible. While many, diverse interests were “at the table” during this process, the substitute bill is still very favorable to gun owners. The broad bi-partisan support for this bill proves that personal safety and security are important issues to Republicans and Democrats alike, whether they live in rural or urban areas. Women are particularly vulnerable to crime, and the number of female legislators voting for HB347 speaks to its importance for the safety that all women care about. The most important aspects to gun owners are uniform laws throughout the state and the elimination of “plain sight” for concealed carry license holders (CHL’s). Background checks will become uniform, as will the standard for sealed/expunged records. Restrictions on police officers have been eased. A complete review of the legislation is available on our web site, http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/article3016.html. |

they need to let us PA residents get one for ohio. I travel into on a daily basis, and hate to have to leave my weapon somewhere else.

HB347 went through the House. Now it has to go through the Senate, then on to the Governor.

Interesting bill, and I'm happy both the Republicans and the Democrats agree that CCW is something serious and needs to be dealt with accordingly, with stricter carry laws and thorough background checks including expunged records.(Once a serious criminal always a criminal)
Next I think the effort that the Representative Aslanides (R-94) and other gun groups should focus on the classes required to obtain a ccw license, I have heard from numerous people here that it is easier than sin to aquire a concealed carry license.

It passed the House but at mentioned it has to pass the Senate. On top of that Governor Taft has already said he will likely Veto it. Can't wait to Vote his arse out of there. Given how bad Taft's reputation is lately I think its likely there might be enough vote's to over turn his veto, I hope.
I am taking my CCL class this coming weekend and Ohio's open carry in the car is my biggest apprehension about carrying in Ohio. Concealed carry should be concealed carry ALL the time. mcb |
