I happily reside in the land of the D's; I live in WV but OH & PA are just a few miles in either direction.

Basically the grade 14=A+ 0=F- across the X axis and firearms related homicide in deaths per 100,000 people on the Y axis. Each data point on the plot is a state. I then did a linear regression. If there was a high correlation between the Brady grade and Homicide the R2 value on the graph would have been nearly 1. If there is a no correlation between the Brady grade and Homicide number the R2 number would be near 0. As you can see it not very close to 1.

What does this mean? Probably not much since it was not a very scientific study by myself but then again probably not much less than Brady Campaign's grade for each state.

For slightly more info I have sources for the data in the graph on my blog: http://mcb-homis.livejournal.com/

Ramblin' big time on this one

Don't mean to burst your bubble...but just a couple comments.

First, correct me if I am wrong, but in your blog you state the homicide data is from 1998? With all due respect, taking data for something 7-8 years ago and trying to tie to something current doesn't really work.

Second, you would have to look at more than just homicides. What about manslaughter? Accidental shootings?.....you get the point. I may be wrong, but I understand the Brady people look at more than just homicides, they look at accidents and such as well.

All in all, while I like the graph, I really think we're comparing apple to oranges here...just my $.02

In Mi we got a D+ , they are talking about passing the castle doctrine like in Fl . Hopefully that will get us to a solid F . This would be the first time in my life I would be proud to get an F . I thought the liberals thought grading was to harsh ?

Bahahaha, they gave Vermont and F- for CCW. I didn't know such a grade existed, but hooray to them for achieving it!
