If they were called Prairie Rats, people wouldn't have a problem at all! They are truly a rat, and not a dog, by any terms, they are flea infested, rabies carrying varmints. As far as them exploding? FERTILIZER!

I agree it is a little graphic, but is probably more humane than poison.

My grandfather lived off of his farm, granted we never had any PD's, but "they"(not PD's) did put an oil well on his property(he didn't have the mineral rights.).

He was paid hansomly for the two acres that were used. He used those two acres for hay, that he sold, for cattle, that he sold, etc. His settlement included every penny the land was worth for the rest of his expected life.

Praire dogs are essentially the same thing, they make whatever land they inhabit unusable for anything else, but PD's can't pay you back.

It really is a life threat to farmers, just the same as someone stealing everything you own. Kill 'em.

As to this becoming another snake thread, I was very against the shooting of the harmless(helpful) snake. However PD's have no usefulness, unless you consider the spread of disease and famine useful.

A friend and i usually use his AR...or a .22-250 and they explode pretty much like the video.

Which i figure is my way of helping the weaker crows and magpies get to the good stuff.

I know, I know, its very nice of me, but what can i say im just a swell guy at heart.

Not to offend but the thread title did specifically contain a warning.

As far as the "canon" that was used - it was probably a .22 centerfire - 6mm max. The wonders of modern bullet design.

You forgot, plague. Something we were very concerned about when we were doing range rat control. We were not allowed around any dog town that was even slightly suspected of having plague present.

I get explosive hits like that all the time with a .223 loaded with Hornady V-Max bullets or Speer TNT HPs. Even at a couple hundred yards it sounds like if you slapped water with a flat open hand.
Though I have to say it really isn't true "hunting" it is more like just live target shooting. It is great fun, I'm planning a trip to shoot them at the end of April.

My fault I missread centerfire for rimfire. On their website it says they used these specific rifles:

1) Savage Model 110 FP in .223

2) Savage Model 12 FV in .22 - 250

3) New England Firearms Sportster in .17 HMR (This one surprised me, but 17HMR is a really exciting and incredible accurate round, didn't think it had much power though)
