I have a Savage Model 110 in .270. I bought this as a combo rifle with an inexpensive (cheap) Simmons scope on it.
I bought a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 with the BDC reticle to replace the Simmons.
So I go to mount it this afternoon and I need to have the front ring back about 1/4" but can't because there is really only one 'setting' to be able to mount the rings to.
The base is a two piece Weaver type.
Will I be able to install something like this Kwik-Site Co. - KSBL-ACCU LA or will I have to do something crazy like having the front of the receiver drilled and tapped so that I can move the front base?
Thanks for any info you can provide on this.
I am heading off to hunt on Tuesday, so I'm guessing I'll be using the Simmons for this trip. (sucks that I pulled the scope off to try to mount the Nikon...I'll have to re-zero before I hit the stand!)

Why can't you move the scope forward in the front ring? Then readjust the back ring forward too if necessary.
The Weaver base has a slot in it, so when the ring mounts to it the screw/bolt of the ring seats in the slot. Because the two piece base only has one slot front and one slot rear, there is no room for movement.
The issue at hand is that the front portion of the Nikon begins to flare out earlier than the Simmons.

If you turn the front base around 1/2 turn on your rifle is the ring still in the same exact position or does it move? Or if you change the rear ring to the front and the front ring to the rear do you gain any adjustment. I am just trying to see if you can mount the scope by changing what you have. If not the one piece base the other poster showed is the answer.

Now there's someone thinking outside the box! Let me go give that a look...good idea!
ETA: The rear would be in the same position, the front would move forward (not the way I need it to go). Thanks for the thought nonetheless.

You are probably going to have to buy new rings to match the one piece base you purchase to get the correct fit of the rings to the base. Buy as a set.

Well, I did save $50 on the cost of the scope, so I suppose buying new rings and base I won't be out all that much more than the retail price of the scope.

I would need to see some picts. Unsure how the Savages are mounted.
