Just the other night a lady in my town had someone come up from behind her while she was getting groceries out of her trunk, grabbed her and put a knife to her throat. She swung the groceries and hit him and got away, suffering a minor cut to her throat. I have no clue what the intentions were of the man but either way I'm sure they weren't good. Apparently the woman had seen the man follow her 2 times before this.

Since one of the topics is someone either pulling a gun or knife on you, I think this incident really points out the fact that you need to pay close attention to your surroundings. Especially at night, and especially while doing anything like getting stuff out of your car or walking up to your apartment or house. And I guess groceries can be a defensive weapon too.. just hope you don't have the bag with bread in your hand! I make my gf carry a can of pepper spray/tear gas, and I've even started carrying one. Never know when someone might approach you. If you know you are in a situation where something could potentially happen, like walking in a dark area.. just keep your hand on it and ready to go. that is if you can't carry a gun.

Several months back int he city I live, 3 men pulled a gun on another man and demanded his wallet. He put his hands out saying, "dont shoot, dont shoot", they demanded his wallet at which time he said, "ok ok". He held one hand out to them like a stop sign as he continued to beg them not to shoot as he reached for his back pocket. Instead of his wallet, he drew his legaly conceiled handgun (Glock) and immediately started firing. If I remember right, between him and his assailants, 15-17 shots were fired. He hit the gun wielding man in the abdomen and they all 3 retreated. The good guy was not struck but said he felt bullets fly by. He was not charged with any crime and the bag guys turned up at a local hospital where they found them with a stolen vehicle and stolen handguns.

I will gladly (in a similar situation) go down with a gun in my hand rather than be found with it still in the holster.

If you carry a handgun or other weapon, you owe it to yourself to practice with it on a regular basis., You will proably and hopefully never need to use it but if the time comes, you should feel 100% confident in your abilities so you will not be second guessing the situation. I personaly KNOW that I can draw and fire round ON TARGET at CCW distances in very minimal time.

Stand in front of a mirror even just a few minutes a week and practice drawing and firing (dry fire). It may feel silly but it may pay big dividends in the long run. You can practice at your local range as well but some ranges forbid drawing from a holster and firing.
