In-Car gun safe - Using it to fly commercial airlines

I've been looking at this:
(thanks to another thread) and saw the following:

Meets Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines for transporting your weapon in your checked luggage when flying.

Who in the hell would check a bag with your nicely oiled XD in it?? If you take off from a state where you have a CCW permit and land in a reciprical state, but you fly over two states that do not honor your permit, is that legal?

I also fly a lot of general aviation aircraft and wonder if I can fly over states that do no honor my permit. Of course, if I had to do an emergency landing in such a state then I know I would be illegal.

I would guess its all legal if ur passing "over" a state. and I have an uncle that travels alot. He checks his handguns when he takes them. Per the TSA requirements.

Umm, I may be wrong but if I recall things correctly from when my gf just flew, a firearm has to be checked in luggage. Otherwise it's able to be in your posession during the flight. And as far as CCW when you land in a different state? Well, if CCW isn't allowed in that state and you know that beforehand.. simply don't keep it concealed when you land and are around there.

People go through bags looking for cameras, jewelry, and other valuables... If they spot one of those in-car safes, they will probably take it and open it up elsewhere. I would hate to lose my firearm, and would be sick if it was used in a crime somewhere.

But of course I want my sidekick if I am in a state that allows it. Tough call for me, I guess.

If you are flying a commercial airline, the only way to travel with your gun IS to check it in with your baggage.... it also has to be in a locked container. I don't understand what point you are trying to make. This is how it has to be done.

Flying over a state lands in the "peaceable journey" catagory if I'm not mistaken. Also, you're not "in" a state when you're flying over it. You're in federal airspace. Not to mention, if you're flying in YOUR OWN plane, it's just like having a gun in your car. That's your private property. Check your FAR/AIM... as PIC you are the one who decides if weapons are allowed on the flight and who can posess them. I also doubt TSA agents are going to go through your luggage if you have to execute an off-field landing.

I executed a forced landing about 5 months ago because of fuel contamination here in central IL. I DID NOT declare an emergency, mainly because I was confident in my ability to hit the bean field I was aiming for, and I didn't want an investigation and a mountain of paperwork. I called the nearest controlled airspace tower and they told me if I didn't declare an emergency, they didn't care and didn't want to know about my forced landing.

I cleaned the water out of the gas, pulled it to the nearest road, had my friends block it, and took off. Easy as that.

Now, I'm not saying you should NOT declare an emergency. That probably wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, because if the landing would have gone bad and my ELT didn't activate I would have been in trouble.
