Top 10 reasons to move to Illinois (pictoral)

At about 4:30 today while I was studying for the MCAT, I became restless (in other words, I was sick of studying) and decided I needed to let you all know the top 10 reasons you should all move to Illinois immediately. I wanted to make this a pictoral top ten, so I didn't include the fact that this is one of the few states w/out any kind of carry at all.

The top ten reasons to move to Illinois.

10. We put things other than the town name on our water towers.

The name of the town is Eureka. For some reason, the water tower says "Lake Eureka". This water tower was just built. My guess is that the crew boss told one of his Nancies to go read the sign down by the lake to make sure they spelled the town name right. Kid probably just wrote down the whole thing, bless his heart. It might be hard to see... it was getting dark.

9. We're genuinely friendly.

Since all of Illinois is one big prarie, this doesn't bode well for visitors. I think the double meaning was intentional. One of these days I think I'm going to put an old car on blocks in front of the "prarie," because I think that would expose it for what it really is: failure to mow the grass. (see reason #1 for explanation)

8. We will put absolutely ANYTHING in a barn.

This is the town water plant. It was built inside a barn. In the middle of town. Yee-haw!

7. Beautiful mountain sunsets.

6. We're frugal.

The board at the school thought this was a great idea. So, they spent all four years worth of my tuition (that is a LOT at a private school) to acquire this hunk of concrete. I think I know why... if you read the plaque... this is "The Berlin Wall". Silly me, I thought it was only a piece of it. I guess that was probably a bargain buy after all.

5. Screechie the Screech Owl.

Screechie was named by some of the frat boys. Really, it must have been some of the smarter, more original ones who I haven't met.

4. Ronald Reagan

Honestly, where else can you just chill and chat it up with a marble bust of Ronnie? Four or six other students' tuition went to pay for this masterpiece.

3. Demonic squirrels

I would imagine this is some sort of evolutionary measure to scare off screechie and avoid becoming an owl pellet.

2. Mild climate

Shortly after this picture was taken, the whole flag pole ripped out of the ground and flew across campus. I should have also taken a picture of the frostbite I had on both hands after being outside long enough to take all of these pictures.

1. We haven't forgotten our heritage.

This was pushed by the liberal english and art departments here at the school a few years ago. One wonders,"What exactly must one do to appreciate our prarie heritage?"

The answer: Stop mowing the lawn behind the TKE house.

I hope you guys enjoyed my little satire piece. I also hope you drive in a big loop to get around Illinois if you ever have to come through the midwest. Trust me, it's worth the extra driving.

I'm curious as to how you could have been genuinely offended by this. It's all good-natured teasing. After all, I've lived in Illinois for 10 years now. Plus, according to the post where you claim to have shot the neighbor kid, you're from Indiana anyway.

Smells like a troll trying to start a fight to me.

If any mods happen across this, I'm going to request that they remove all the replies to this thread up to this point. They really don't have any reason to be posted in this thread, and I think they detract from the lighthearted attitude in which I posted this.

Mod is on duty. Some posts have been deleted from above.

Is midwest the one up by Springbay? If so, I've never been there, but a lot of the guys who shop at Midwest Firearms (the gun store where I do most of my shopping) do.

Yeah its about 5 minutes from Springbay. Midwest firearms is great to deal with. I think they have the best customer service of any stores around the area.
