I know just what you mean. I have been with nextel for the past 4 years and befor that at work. MY PHONE SUCKS! dropped calls, missed calls, no rings, delayed messages, bad bad. I have to wait untill October this year to spare myself the $200 early termination fee.
Cingular in my area seems to be good. my buddy has thier service on a cheap ass phone and he still gets stronger signal and more areas than me. Yea I dig the razor too, have you seen its little brother the "Sliver"? i think either would be a great switch from the bulk and bull of Nextel. Cheers

Never buy a special edition phone. They can't service it you have to send it to motorla they won't even offer a service contract.Wish they would have told me before I bought three Dale junior phones. I dropped mine and in broke a retainer screw by the mic and had to buy a case on ebay for 10 bucks it's blue now.Or it was going to be 150 for repair or 250 for an exchange. I think the built in gps screws the signal but I have no way to prove it wish I keept my I50 worked the best of all them I90 was ok I stoll have it. The bitch is a use the cell as my main bussiness line

I have had both cingular and verizon. I had cingular first. The reception was good, the customer service was crap. I got them when I went to college. My mother and I were on a share plan. We wanted to add a third line so we went to the store. Well, they had just switched the type of networks they used and said that in order to add a third phone we would have to get 3 new phones. Since we were under contract still on two phones, we would have to pay full price ($250+ per phone) for those. When we told my dad this, he called them up. He said I've paid you $1200+ a year for several years, they said so what. Well, my Dad made my mom and I go to the Verizon store and get new phones the next week. He just paid to get out of the contracts.
Since I've had Verizon, everythings been good. The service is great. Their customer service has been great too, especially compared to cingular. When I got married, they had no problem allowing my wife's line to be switched from her parent's share plan over to mine. They even gave her an extra $100 off the two-year contract price on a new phone for being a loyal customer. While my wife was in college, she had like a $350 bill one month (I know, ridiculous) on minute overages. Well, she was having trouble paying it because she was short on cash. She called the customer service up and the guy tells her that if she pays her bill ontime for the next 2 months, he'll take off $200. She thought the guy was BS'ing her. Well a couple months later she finds a $200 credit on her bill. I guess Verizon figured keeping a customer that pays us $700/year loyal is worth lowering their bill $200. It's not like they were out anything. Minutes don't cost a cell phone company anything. Go with Verizon, you want be disappointed. |

Cripes! How long are your contracts? (unless you picked up new phones along the way or bit on the rebate for contract extension deals). My Nextel contracts were two years (linked to phone purchase), recently dropping them entirely due to the "Sprint-e-rization" of Nextel (well, maybe not entirely - there were other things, such as their coverage range in Northern Michigan seeming to be within 20 miles of a freeway).
My wife has a Razr through Cingular. She seems to like it and hasn't broke it yet. Coverage areas seem okay. I rarely have any coverage issues with my work-funded phone via Verizon, however, cell coverage is so area specific it may be difficult for anyone that doesn't frequent your specific area to comment on what you can expect. |

I have Sprint.
I will have t-mobile next. They give me a bigger corporate discount and if your phone breaks you just take out the SIM card and buy a new one from ebay or them.

I WAS with Cingular for 7 yrs. Signal okay, customer service pretty decent. They dropped $150 off my last bill since it was way out of my norm.
After our contracts were up my wife and I decided to switch to Verizon because 90% of our family has Verizon. Two weeks have past since we joined and the customer service is par for the course, decent. The signal is great and we got a deal on two phones. 2 Samsung A950's for $150 with a mail in rebate for $50(sending that out today). So far we're happy with the service and won't be looking back any time soon! If I were you, I'd poll the locals down at the bar(or friends family etc, you get the point) and see what kind of service they have.
