Anyone else got...
Acid reflux. I'm 24 and my doc told me today that i probably have it. Ive been feeling nausaus(sp?) for the past few days and decided to get it checked out. Ive had this feeling like something caught in my esophagus and in turn makes me feel like i have to puke. What the hell, i'm 24, i eat right, exercise regularly and now get this. I do smoke a little(I know I know, I'm working on it, trust me). So now i have a months supply of Nexium? and hope that it works. Is this stuff hereditary, cause my dad has it. Tomorrow I get to go radioactive and get an Upper GI Xray. This means i get to drink that chalk milkshake with plutonium or something in it. Hope it shows something.
Rant off.

yup, im not much older then you and i had it real bad when i was in my early 20's and as a teenager
for me it was carbs setting it off, i ate alot of junk food, and i eventually figured out it was all the carbs starting it up i eventually narrowed it down to which foods it was and just stop eating them im not sure if its carbs or just a particular food that is doing it to you, but i would say its food related in some way pill pushing doctors always say its hereditary and just give you some pills to take, you might be more subseptable to it if your parents have it, thats about it the pills will help, but finding out what is causing it, will help even more

My wife is a certified natural healthcare professional and she says that acid reflux is due to your food not digesting and/or you have too much undigested food in your stomach. Everyone has some undigested food in their stomach. That is natural. If you can find a natuarl healthcare professional then they can do a bowl detoxification. Go to a healthcare store (and I don't mean GNC. That's not healthcare) and get some Proactzyme Plus. She also said that you can take a tablespoon of vinegar with warm water after each meal to help the digestion.
I'm not knocking all doctors but they treat symptoms instead of fixing the real problem. The problem with Nexium and such is that they not only have side effects but they kill ALL the acids in the stomach and your stomach needs much of it. Therefore the body produces more acid and thus there is an imbalance in the body. I'm 40 and a firm believer in natural healthcare. It has changed my life significantly. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Yea me too. The doc prescribed Prilosec works good I can even go every other day on my meds. The main cause for me is spicy food and alcohol.

If I dont eat anything I get it. When my stomach is empty I get it.
Caffine, sugar, lack of food, etc all give it to me. I am 22 and last year they thought I was having a heart attack. Its the reflux. I take ginger root pills to help.

I'm 55 and for about 20yrs. I was thought to have it. I have taken all of the meds. you see advertised on tv and then some. None worked. I even had the scope put down my throat about 2yrs ago to see if I Barrett's esophagus (pre cancerous). Thankfully not.
The specialist I went to put me on Reglan, but I still had the attacks. I would drink water and the pain would go away. For the heck of it, I stayed off the meds for a week and discovered I had the same amount of attacks whether or not I was on them. Also, my doc determined I don't have acid reflux, but instead esphageal reflux as there is no acid coming up from my stomach. No known cause/cure. When the pain hits (and it's really bad), I drink some water and it goes away. I wish there was a cure tho. One good thing tho, I don't drink sodas anymore as I was told the phosphoric was bad for the stomach. |

retired - my Dad was recently diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus (pre cancerous). He was put on the little purple pill. It had no real affect but the condition didn't worsen either. He's had biopsies, etc. Now they want to give some new radiowave (?) treatment. His initial med work started at the VA; but he's now going through the Mayo (sp?) clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
Just thought I'd pass it along in case you ever need options. If you're interested, I'll ping him for some details. I'm sure there's a lot missing from the above stuff. Dad rarely sees a doctor and even more rarely discusses any findings. But he will if I ask. |

Nexium is a wonderful thing. I'm 26 and I've been taking it for a couple of years now. I can go a day or so without it but then my reflux comes back after day 2. When I'm taking Nexium regularly I don't have any problems whatsoever. I usually don't like to take medicine, but I sing the praises of Nexium anytime I can.

A friend of mine thought he had bad reflux/heartburn but it turned out to be his gallbladder. I'm not sure how it's related but once he had it out, no more problems.
