Birthday rant

I have absolutely hated and refused to celebrate my birthday for years now. Some really bad things have happened to me on or around it, so I decided it wasn't important and to ignore it. Well, my wife LOVES hers, so this year I decided I'd try and embrace it. I planned an outing to a comedy club. Admission including 2 drinks would be $6, and everyone said they were OK with it. I make the reservations for 10 people. Well, one person claims their grandmother was in the hospital (dunno for sure yet), and they would not attend. If that's the case, then I understand. So Friday comes and I have been looking forward to this all week. Then comes the first one... "I have a headache...". Then the second... "I have family things I couldn't get out of even though I had these plans WAY in advance" (I don't believe it), so on and so forth. Then the one person I counted on coming the most... "I spent all my money on stupid crap and don't have $6 to go to your birthday celebration". Needless to say I am LIVID still. I tried REALLY damned hard to actually go out and DO SOMETHING on my birthday. This was really hard for me to do with my past birthdays, and this just was the last thing I needed. Learning who your friends really are sucks. That was a really ****** thing for them to do. I think the "Family thing" was having to watch a kid for an hour. Like they couldn't have called anyone else... The spent money on video games REALLY irks me the most, as this was the ONE person I thought understood. No apology from them either. I am still BEYOND mad at him and extremely disappointed. I ended up cancelling the reservations for MY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION because people let me the hell down.

Thanks for listening.... /rant

Damn that sucks. Especially no apologies either. Goes to show who your true friends are.

That really is a shame. Never had a group celebration of my birthday as an adult. Instead, it was a nice dinner out with my wife and kids. These are the ones that really appreciate you in the long run.
Better luck next time, Mr. Long!

Yeah, I don't do the whole birthday thing, other then with immediate family. Even then, it is always a low key bbq or something with no more then 10 people. Most years, my wife and I just have a nice dinner, open a nice bottle of wine and that's it.

That sucks, man. Sorry to hear that.

Yeah, it can be difficult to get folks to break out of their ruts and go out to have fun. That's too bad. And it's even worse that it happened on a special day for you.

I'm in a different predicament...

That sucks, but happy belated birthday just the same.

Not to hijack, but my wife and I got married on... wait for it.....

My birthday... I know, it was by my choice and long story short in Texas, active duty military do not have to wait the 3 day wait to get hitched after filing... So I got a half day off for my b-day from my supervisor and we headed to the courthouse. The rest is history and I am soooo glad to be married to such a beautiful and wonderful woman... but how I wish I had picked a different day... For the last 12 years we celebrate our anniversary that day, not my birthday.

I actually don't mind because I have no excuse what so ever if I ever do forget my anniversary...

Don

We always have the family over for for drinks and dinner. Probably about 8-9 people.

Hey, thanks guys. You honestly don't know how much hearing (well, reading) this makes me feel better about it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be getting some help from my friends Mosin, Springer, and Marlin...

Frenchy, it;'s becoming clear already that it is going to be that way. Hopefully I've weeded out the bad ones and next ear I can try this again...
