New Rifle Day!

I finally caved and bought myself a Soviet battle rifle. It is a Izhevsk made Mosin Nagant M44 with 1944 build year. I bought it at Big 5 here in Moscow, ID for $140. Not the cheapest I have ever seen one but the cheapest I have seen one in the last 2 years. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I am very happy with it. The rifle is in very good shape and I can't wait to go shoot it next weekend. I will get some pics up once I remember my login for Photobucket.

I am going hunting for ammo this weekend. Any experienced Mosin owners with any advice for the M44 newb?

The gun was designed to shoot it's most accurate with the bayonet extended. Try it both ways and decide.

Online deals for ammo are generally good. You have to provide ID and pay for shipping, but the cost is almost always less than at a store or gunshow. The Czechoslovakian military surplus ammo is good, as are actual Russian and Bulgarian. Polish is the most accurate, but is hard to find right now.

Remember to clean the bajeebers out of it when you are done shooting, all surplus ammo for them is corrosive.

And Brown Bear is pretty damn good. Wolf likes to make the bolt stick I'm assuming because of the lack of lacquer on the case.
