News just said national unemployment just topped 10% - XDTalk Forums

Not sure if its true, but I'm watching the news and they came in with a breaking news segment saying they (the gub'ment) announced the unemployment rate topped 10%, the highest rate since 1982.

If true, do we really think the recession is over?

True unemployment is actually higher than that by a fair margin.

The current "formula" does not count "discouraged workers" (folks who have been out of work more than 6 mos or maybe a year) and some other convenient things that are left out and allow it to be reported LOWER than what it really is

I've also heard that once your Unemployment benifits run out your no longer counted....

-So when Obama signs the UB extension tomorrow, you can expect the number to start rising as all the people who've run out re-apply for Unemployment.

Also doesn't include UNDERemployed. As those without real jobs take whatever just to get some money coming in. I had to do that for awhile 10-yrs ago during an extended unemployed period. Went from $70k job to mall cop making $11/hr.

Question. IIRC there is already an extension in place. So with new one does that mean people signing up for an original claim get their original benefits, then the first extension, and now the new extension on top of it all? That's a long time isn't it? Anybody know. Just curious.

Those were the EXACT WORDS I heard on an ABC Radio News hourly broadcast about an hour ago.

Rising unemployment equals the economy getting better? Really? Where did these morons take Economics 101 class?

What's the possible length of pay out now for benefits? Isn't somewhere like 78 weeks now? The kind of F'ed up thing is I know people doing better on unemployement than any job they can find, so why go work for less?
This should have been Obama's #1 and highly concentrated upon issue..... but no, Obama-care is soooooo important. Thanks douche.
