The news folks have two completely different views of a situation. One if a Republican is in office and another if it happens to be a Democrat. Can you even imagine how they would report 10%+ unemployment if Bush were still in office?

I'm guessing it would be a lot like how Fox News is reporting it now with Obama.

It does not count discouraged workers, workers who are not getting unemployment benefits and it does not count workers who were formerly employed full time and now have part-time (less than 20hrs a week) jobs.

I have seen estimates ranging for 14-22% for actually number of people out of work.

We are having a "jobless recovery", didn't you hear it on the news? This means that the banks make record profits while everything else goes to ****, and is the new definition of a good economy.
+1 on their number being fake. It is a lot higher than that if you do an honest accounting. The inflation numbers are totally fake too.

There is no recovery. There is only a bubble being created by cheap credit. There is no real growth in the sense that we all mean it in the real world. If you're a big business and you have the means why wouldn't you take on debt right now? Money is essentially free. This is largely why the stock market is going up, all asset classes are.

There's a lot of misconceptions here about the unemployment rate. It does in fact account for people who are off unemployment benefits. The unemployment rate is figured from polls, not unemployment benefits. Underemployed counts as employed though.

Cheers,

The Dem's have had an agenda since Bill was in office and they are going to get it passed even if it kills them - uh - us. Don't blame just the Prez for all our problems though. Every congressman is bought and paid for within the first year and there is not one in the bunch that has had an original thought since the K street boys started telling them what to say and do.

Not that McCain inspired much confidence....partly he is to blame for Obama, if you ask me. Obama should have been easily creamed but McCain just could not do it.

I don't know who ran McCain's campaign but I hope Michael Steele sees that they are not fit to sweep the ailes at the next convention, let alone run another campaign.

I don't think it was the person who ran the campaign, I don't think McCain was electable period. He was the last choice of some many republicans.
