Windows 7 question.
Is there any problems with upgrading to Windows 7 home premium from Windows Vista home premium, or should I go buy a full version of windows 7 and do a clean install? I don't want to spend more money and I allready have a free upgrade version of windows 7 hp, but I don't want to have an unstable OS. Please help me computer guys.
Please don't say the cliche "Buy a Mac" line. I don't like them and won't even consider it. Thanks in advance! |

If you already have a free upgrade I'd say go for it. I don't think it will cause harm, especially from Vista.
I did a clean install Upgrade and don't worry about it. |

I did an 'upgrade' on my HP laptop. Other than having to uninstall my virus program, and re-install when complete it was very simple.
Took 2 hours tops and I've not had 1 issue. Rock stable.

It's unclear what they do for verification. Vista required a full previous OS install before going to do vista. XP and older would require you to insert disc for proof. Vista work around. Simply insert your upgrade DVD, boot into the installer, and when prompted to enter your product key, refuse. After you click through all the warnings and pick the version you purchased, it would push ahead with the install. Your product key could then be easily entered later on once you were booted into the OS, and you could then activate using the normal process.

full versions just allow you to do an install with no other previous installed copies. I'm not sure how it would work without the disc. Is the pre-loaded recovery on it's own seperate partition? I edited my original response above to include what Vista requires for upgrade verification. I'm not sure if W7 is the same yet as I haven't gotten around to installing my copy.. You can try the work around listed..

When I 'upgraded' from Vista, I didn't have to insert my Vista disk.
But I also at some point had 'verified' Vista with Microsoft. So perhaps that is why.
